About this deal

Swap it out for the hard floor cleaning attachment and you get similarly impressive results for a longer run time. Actually the range of attachments was one of the things I like the most. Mine came with hard and soft motorised heads for carpet and hard floors, a Pet Pro motorised head with rubber bristles, which really worked, and various crevice and brush tools. Roidmi started in 2015 in China and is still little-known in the UK, although its models are sold by big names like Harrods. It markets itself on innovation, and this combined vacuum and steam mop is a perfect example.

It performed exceptionally well on hard floors and carpets alike, and it has a handy illuminated floor head and hardy brush mode that made light work of leeching dust and debris from my rugs. At 3.1kg, it’s a touch heavier than some of the other models on this list, but still plenty light enough to use for cleaning surfaces and corners as a handheld device. While still not as powerful as their mains-powered counterparts (especially the most powerful cylinder vacuum cleaners), new technology such as long-lasting lithium-ion batteries means that the best cordless vacuum cleaners from brands like Shark, Dyson and Vax now offer enough cleaning power for most homes, in a much lighter, more manoeuvrable and affordable format. Clip on the “extension handle” and all is well, but it does feel like a design compromise – as if the design team didn’t realise the original handle was hokey until it was too late to change it, so they slapped a spare in the box!If you don't have space to store your vacuum in a cupboard, this sleek design would look neat on display. It glided over all surfaces and lifted 96 per cent of dust on test. It also removed all biscuit crumbs and pet hair with ease. On stairs, it reached into all corners and proved effortless to use overall. Deep clean hard floors and remove spills and other unsightly accidents with the latest in mopping tech

We test all our cordless vacuum cleaners in the same way, so we can compare the performance of a new model with every vacuum we’ve reviewed in the past. With a cordless unit, this starts with a battery rundown test, to see how long the battery lasts at each of its power settings on short-pile carpet with the floor head attached. Then we measure the suction (in kPa) and the air flow. Clumps of cat hair and strands left behind from a long-haired breed didn’t pose much of a challenge and were vacuumed up from the carpet, hard floors and rug without a problem, and without the need to keep moving the vacuum over and over the same patch of floor. One of the biggest annoyances of cordless vacuums is that you have to find somewhere to lean them when you’re mid clean. The Hoover HF500 doesn’t have this problem. When it’s upright you can let it go and hey-presto, it waits there, ready to resume cleaning when you want to restart. It proved a similarly powerful cleaner on hard floors, short pile carpet and floorboards, consistently lifting most dirt in just one sweep. It struggled a tad on long pile, but still fared respectably. It’s nimble and also proved impressive in the car. There are four models in the Bespoke Jet range, but the Pro Extra also comes with a mopping attachment. This uses a second floor head with two rotating pads and a water reservoir, which is more than capable of giving your floor a good wipe – perfect for households with messy eaters or muddy paws. There are a handful of specifications to look at before you begin, of which the most crucial are weight, bin capacity and battery life. Considering how powerful it is, the Dyson V10 Cyclone has an excellent battery life of up to 60 minutes in the default mode and 30 minutes on the more powerful “Max Boost” setting. The dust container is also 40% larger than the V8 (it’s now 0.76l) and while that makes it more expensive, it’s still exceptional value if you want to keep your house spotless. It only takes two hours to charge but its battery life (two are included) varied in use – it lasted 19 minutes moving between speeds and surfaces, while on its lowest setting it lasted for over an hour. The digital battery display will keep you informed though.

You’ll also get useful lights on the handheld section of the machine, to tell you how long you’ve got left. If you’re worried about the battery life, unless you have a huge home which you want to clean in one go, you should be fine. Never did I run out of battery, albeit in a small three-bed flat. Do they have good dust capacity? It’s not the only balancing act it can perform. You can also remove the vacuum section from the top and hang it further down the extension wand, reducing its height significantly for storage purposes. It supports itself in this position, too. It’s worth noting that it's a bit cumbersome; it’s got a large charging station that works best mounted on a wall and testers found it quite heavy as a handheld vacuum. That said, its “SelfStand” feature means it can stand upright unsupported and it has a great selection of tools, including a large soft brush that can be angled to get into tight spots too. The IZ300 range uses its new PowerFins technology on the brush bar: these stiff fabric fins work alongside the usual brushes to agitate your carpet more vigorously. In our tests, we saw this help the vacuum perform as thorough a job on our controlled spills of cereal and flour as we’ve seen from any cordless vacuum, including more expensive models. What do you personally think about the Henry being more expensive, do you think this is the right price for a product like this? We were intrigued by the AI promise in its name, and this vacuum didn’t disappoint. It detects the floor type it’s cleaning and adjusts its brush speed and suction power accordingly for optimum performance and efficiency.
