Clear and colored grip tape use Aluminum Oxide grip and are not very durable. Therefore, do not use a wire brush to clean the clear or colored grip tape. Colored grip tape uses a colored resin that holds the transparent (aluminum oxide) grit in place. The grit will turn white if you scratch this grip tape with a bush. Grip tape usually lasts between 6 and 18 months before needing to be replaced. You’ll know when it does need replacing because you’ll feel your grip starting to slip as you ride your skateboard.
