In an episode of the YouTube web series Super Power Beat Down, which features actor Jason David Frank as Tommy, the Green Ranger's suit was given a one-off revamped look, featuring a more modernized suit design in a much darker shade of green and armed with the Sword of Darkness and the Dragon Dagger. This version of the Green Ranger would be made into a playable character in Power Rangers Legacy Wars, dubbed the Green Ranger V2 suit. Strangely, no new footage featuring the Dragonzord Battle Mode was created for the Saban-commissioned Zyu2 footage, although the Dragonzord itself continued to appear. Tommy also had a recurring dream about True of Heart. One day he bumped into a man named Sam who looked exactly like him. Tommy offered to take Sam home, where he found someone who looked remarkably similar to him. When Tommy went after him, the man seemed to vanish. Sam, revealing his name to be Sam Trueheart, told Tommy that once he completed his quest, the identity of the young man would be revealed. In one instance, he captured Tommy and placed him under an evil spell, and had him lure the Rangers into calling on the Sword of Power for Zedd's monster, Robogoat. Tommy, with the other Rangers, called upon the sword and then snatched it from them. Taunting the others, he left and gave the sword to Goldar. Once he gave up the sword, the spell was broken. Tommy couldn't believe what he had done. He tried to retrieve the sword himself, but Robogoat weakened his powers. The Rangers defeated Goldar and Robogoat and regained control of the sword. In the beginning, there's a rivalry between him and Jason as both are equally skilled at martial arts. After joining the Ranger though, Tommy constantly tries to show up Jason. Zordon is aware of the problem and sends the two on a mission to recover special blasters protected by the Zord called Titanus (who becomes a powerhouse of the team) to defeat Rita's Super Putties. It is there that Tommy and Jason learn to work together. The two form a deep bond and begin teaching martial arts together as well as competing together. The Mighty Morphin Green Ranger Key is one of Tommy's personal Ranger Keys. This key along with the other 14 Official Sixth Ranger Keys are seen lining the Command Center's interior walls. The Falconzord is ultimately retrieved in time for Rita and Rito's father Master Vile's arrival on Earth, and the Rangers are able to use their new Metallic Armor to battle him. It is during this time that Tommy is tasked with retrieving the Zeo Crystal from beneath Rita and Zedd's palace, as only a being of pure heart can pass through its force field and survive. Tommy manages to traverse the Caves of Deception to find the Zeo Crystal, and the team uses their powers to split it into five pieces and send it to different parts of history so Master Vile can never use its powers to harm the Earth. Returning to the team, Tommy helps the Rangers fight various monsters. Though Zordon cautions him about his limited power supply, Tommy was always battle ready if called upon. He no longer keeps a low profile and became more dependent on the Rangers, helping to unify the team. Tommy also begins to do more activities with the Rangers such as martial arts teaching with Jason, basketball, and football.Though still used in battle, the Dragonzord was left at a severe disadvantage from that point on; in addition to its power growing weaker and weaker alongside Tommy's own (with one attempt to summon it failing completely), the Dragonzord was incapable of combining with the newer Thunderzords, further limiting its usefulness. Unlike the other Dinozords, Dragonzord was not able to transform into a Thunderzord since Tommy's powers were too weak to allow this. Its final battle for the Rangers occurred when it fought TurbanShell and was easily defeated by the powerful monster. The battle with Turbanshell marked the end of Tommy's Green Ranger powers, and with no corresponding Ranger to command it, the Dragonzord returned to stasis in the sea.
