After alot of digging finding some coins and junk I found I would find a good sounding target then I'd put it on full metal mode and if the numbers stayed without wavering by a few points I'd dig it. These levels are ideal for fine tuning the densest ‘carpet of nails’ situation. Yes if you drop the recovery rate to 1 during an air test the depth will be a lot deeper. Same with testbed tests; if you know where the target is any noise means you’ve detected the target, right? If you are looking for a high-performance, waterproof metal detector, you do not need to look any further than the Minelab Equinox 800. Detect Modes and operating frequency can be instantly changed at the push of a button for a dynamic and uninterrupted detecting experience.

Equinox 800 has wireless headphones in its set. Actually, they are wired ones, but with a unit to plug in a wireless adapter. I hope it’s ok to post here. I am going for my first detector, and been put off the minelabs 3030 because it needs a ‘users’ brain to start with !

I'm a complete newby to it but there's a couple of things I did. Theres a group on FB called "dig it detecting" and in their files section there's a pdf called Luke's nox settings. Minelab Equinox 800 is a reasonable improvement of previous models from Minelab, and specifically of Equinox 600. It is a lightweight device that weighs little over 1.3 kg and has an ergonomic design that favours long hunts without feeling heavy in your hands. It comes with an 11″ round coil that attracts most of the weight and a sturdy armrest made of high-quality plastic. Think of the 900 as a supercharged 800. I’ve been asked to reference spinal tap here and not that the Equinox 900 goes to, ‘11’, but some may not know what we’re talking about! In Equinox you can adjust the target response. Low target response level allows hunting for targets located deep under ground, but at that the level of target distinguishing will be low. I am looking forward to Noktas first PI machine. (Other than thier little handheld diving PI). This should be a real nice machine, better than Minelabs.XP (the manufacturer) state that “Beach Sensitive” is the Deus 2’s deepest program for the beach but the most reactive, the “Diving” program is the least sensitive but also the least reactive making it very stable and easy to use. The plain “Beach” program is somewhere in the middle. Theses three salt water programs cover all bases for in and out of the salt water. And one of the biggest myths is that the lowest recovery setting of 1 is the deepest setting, often it’s no deeper than 6 because those extra targets aren’t recognised as `diggers’. Even worse than that is that deep faint targets you hear at a recovery of 6 often can’t be heard at a recovery of 1 in a real-life detecting environment. The Equinox 800 comes with four search mode that gives this detector an edge over other similar metal detectors in the market. Its search modes include Field Mode, Park Mode, Beach Mode, and Gold Mode. So, it doesn’t matter where you take your detecting adventures may take you. Moreover, with the multi-frequency, this mode becomes even more versatile for its price.
