About this deal

Hi, I have just received my first YouView box with recording facility from BT (500gb) and having read your really excellent instructions I can’t wait for it to fail so I can fit a larger hard drive – just a joke! I find the BT G4 Yoview box that I also use for BT TV services to be a far better box than the older BT Youview T1000.

BT TV Reveal Spec for Smallest YouView+ Set Top Box DTR-T2100

I wouldn't imagine it would be possible to side-load apps on a box like that easily, unless there is some sort of custom firmware available for it. I've only got experience of a Humax Freeview PVR though, so hopefully a current or ex-BT/Humax YouView box owner can advise. All youview boxes provide 5 different resets. The easiest to access is via their menus, but that will also delete all your recordings and you would also need to setup everything again. It's hard to know - you really need to know 100% what the boxes do without an HDD attached, normally they work (to some extent). You have not explained very well exactly when you get this green screen problem... If it is intermittent or constant, if the issue is repeatable, whether it can be cleared and made to work or not...

I have a Philips 58pus8555 TV so really only want something for occasional recordings, no need for any smart bells & whistles as the TV has it all, it would help if it was fast and user friendly. Everything works perfect thanks to your easy to understand instructions. Why couldn’t more companies follow your example? Had a beeping BT DTR T2100 box which wouldn’t load past the start up screen following a power off and on.The new youview software that TalkTalk are rolling out over the next couple of months should improve at least some aspects of the slowness. For recording radio programes all youview boxes are unreliable. This is due to the youview boxes having no manual option for setting up timers. Even when I was trying to use my DTR-T2100 as my prime device I had to keep my HDR-FOX T2 fully running in parallel for radio programmes. I'd also bought a DTR-T2100 a fornight before and initailly had them both scheduled to record the same porgrammes for a few weeks. Unlike the DTR-T2100 the TalkTalk box did not miss one recording. Personally think dead HDD is getting more likely as apart from the beeping I mentioned it is 100% silent, no HDD noise at all and usually there is a little HDD noise on these boxes. I came home and my DTR T2100 was on with a blue light showing, but the TV wasn’t receiving a signal from it and it didn’t respond to the remote or any button presses.

Question Freeview - Youview - DTR-T2100 - Not getting some Question Freeview - Youview - DTR-T2100 - Not getting some

The (non-retail) DTR-T2100 is practically identical to the (retail) DTR-T2110 but comes in a plan brown box and the label on the underside identyfing as the DTR-T2100 'model'. There is no other difference. If I recall correctly even the on-screen system information menu does not differentiate the two. Reasons I opted for this unit was because it had WiFi so no need to connect via cable for the streaming services.

There are no fans, so it’s virtually silent except for the exceptionally quiet whirring of the laptop-style hard drive. Unless you’re right next to the box, this is inaudible, so it’s ideal for bedrooms as well as the living room or kitchen. Note that the Ultra HD version does have a fan, which can be a little irritating in a quiet room.
