About this deal

Any issues with the book list you are seeing? Or is there an author or series we don’t have? Let me know!

i just think booktok has become so saturated with individuals trying to promote their own books that i can no longer rely on it to find new reading material. because it seems like the quality of stories has decreased and anything gets published these days if a video has enough views. :/

Publication Order of Dragon Mage Books

I’m currently reading the third book as I’m writing this review and I can see this series making it to the list of my favorite fantasy reads. The Hero’s Journey Enter the protagonist, a young and courageous hero named Elara. Fated to confront the curse and redeem the garden, Elara embarks on a quest fraught with challenges. Her journey takes her through treacherous landscapes, where she encounters characters afflicted by the curse. Each encounter reveals a layer of the curse’s malevolence and sets the stage for redemption. however, while i loved the story, the writing drove me bonkers. the prose itself isnt terrible, but the structure is just… odd. like missing sentences, random jumps between chapters/events, characters showing up in a scene when its never mentioned that they are present, information presented in a way that assumes the reader is already aware of it, and just inconsistent pacing. This book introduces a split POV for both Valen and Elise and while it does help give a little more character development for the two, I often found myself confused by whose internal monologue I was reading. Often the voice of the characters blended together a little two easily or weren’t as distinctly different that I had to think hard or reread sections to remember if this was from Valen or Elise’s POV.

In this, you will meet Elise and Legion. She is a princess who feels like she's not up for the part. He's the mysterious stranger in charge of her dowry. I'll admit that these two were pretty predictable throughout the book. Instantly I knew something about Legion, but not everything. As for Elise, I liked how she didn't look down at people and treated them like an equal. Not like her horrible sister. Everything happened so fast. In true Game of Thrones fashion, the potential for character building and plot and world building was there. But BAM. Rush through it all and make it a letdown.Heightened Sensitivity to Darkness: Those under the curse of shadows and thorns may have an intensified aversion or discomfort around darkness or shadows. They may feel an overwhelming presence of darkness, even in well-lit environments, or experience a heightened sensitivity to eerie or foreboding atmospheres. As secrets unravel about Legion's vicious past, questions rise over who has the true right to the throne. When answers come, more lives are put at stake, and Elise is forced to make an impossible choice: avoid a bloody game by leaving Legion to the beast within, or end his curse and restore magic to the land by sacrificing a life--hers. honestly, i love the concept. the way the story progresses kept me very engaged as a reader, which is what i want from this common type of fantasy book. the characters are also pretty good. a little shallow, but interesting enough.

The Enchanted Realm: The Garden of Elysia At the heart of the legend lies the Garden of Elysia—a realm of unparalleled beauty and harmony. This idyllic garden is teeming with vibrant flora, magical creatures, and an extraordinary tree bearing golden apples. The garden represents the pinnacle of existence, where light and life intertwine in perfect equilibrium.Elise is also presented as a typical white saviour, in quite a literal fashion. For example, she is supposedly the key to curing Legion/Valen of his curse, and when he manages to cure himself in spite of this she is still lorded as the saviour. The white saviour trope, for reference, is where a white character steps in to rescue non-white characters from their problems. It is a clear theme throughout the novel, and follows the idea that people of colour are not capable of doing things for themselves. In real life this translates to money being given to white organisations (such as tourism for volunteering and missionary trips) instead of directly to the marginalised communities in question, where it would arguably be more effective. PDF / EPUB File Name: Curse_of_Shadows_and_Thorns_-_LJ_Andrews.pdf, Curse_of_Shadows_and_Thorns_-_LJ_Andrews.epub My last peeve with the writing was the fact that all the other characters could be referred to by their first name ALONE. But LEGION GREY is 90% of the time mentioned with his full name. There are 74 instances in the book where his full name are mentioned (I read this as an ebook so could easily count the search)… a few instances of a full name are fine, but after about 13 my skin started crawling when I saw it.
