About this deal

My daughter just bought a house. Three doors. I bought her three Buddy bars. A little pricey compared to the imitators, but what is your safety worth?

This product is so simple that you might be forgiven for being surprised at how effective it can be. It consists of a powder-coated steel bar weighing about 8 pounds, which is all steel and has no easily breakable plastic parts. This allows the Buddybar to withstand huge amounts of pressure from the outside. There was indoor seating around the lobby in the hotel including the piano lounge where there there was a pianist playing in the evening. This music was piped around the various seating areas, so no escaping it.Adjustable pin-in-hole, sliding tube mechanism. Only pre-measured fixed adjustments available, Pin is not sturdy. Rubber padding glued on the bottom of the foot; the pivoting ball at end of tube that inserts into foot has been known to pop out.

The first difference that I immediately noticed with the BuddyBar door jammer is its heft and weight. This product has great force withstanding capacity. But at the end of the day, it is a mechanical product which would sound an alarm anywhere if it is compromised if you are away. Bottom Line. I bought the Buddy but the top part that fits under the door handle is wobbly. Does anyone know if this is normal? This is the lobby bar in the Riu Palace Santa Maria where we stayed from 11th to 25th July. It is situated in the vast lobby of the hotel and it is open daily from 8.00 am until midnight. We did visit here a number of times during our stay. It had a large terrace seating area which overlooked the beach. So this was an ideal place to stop, late afternoon, for a cold beer as we returned to the hotel having spent the day on the beach. The ‘wedge’ that fits underneath the doorknob has about 1/2 inch of spring to it – which allows some ‘give’ while you wedge it under the knob. Makes it easier to set it. The specific model we are discussing here works well for doors that open into the room or outward. But if there is a set of French windows or what we refer to as a patio window, which slides horizontally to the right or left, instead of in or out, then this particular model might not work. They are well made, heavy gauge steel and work on the principle of a wedge. The harder you push, the more resistant the wedge becomes.

I think the door hinges would break before the Buddy Bar gave way. That said, short of an intruder having a police-type battering ram, they will give you time to either arm yourself (if you are smart enough to keep a firearm in reach), get to a “safe room” and/or dial 911. Great little find .very cozy bar lots of people in side and out good atmosphere with locals and tourist.Seating was also available outside on the terrace. A good spot to sit with a cold beer in the late afternoon, having spent the day on the beach. All this and more are explicitly mentioned and explained in the instruction booklet. Buddy-bar Testing Report To set the length, I simply approximated the distance between the door knob and about a foot away from the door at the bottom. Then I set it (latched it) without being under the doorknob. From that point on when I wish to use it – I lightly slip it underneath the doorknob (snug, but not too tight) and let it find its natural (pre-adjusted)distance to the floor. Amazing day, even better guide, we saw so much in 6 hours and were entertained all the time by Dino ,

As we said earlier, you wouldn’t get the best results if the floor is wet or oily or otherwise dirty. When using the adjustment lever for the first time and setting the initial length to wedge between doorknob and floor, don’t force it too tight under the handle. Too much force could actually damage your doorknob. You could use it on your house door or you could carry it with you to the hotel you would be staying in. I’m a retired police officer. I did my homework. The Buddy Bar appears to be the strongest deterrent to a door-break entry, short of an expensive fortification of the door.
