About this deal

Take the maximum current value obtained from the table and find the largest fuse you can find that still falls within the limitations. DO NOT EXCEED THE VALUES ON THIS TABLE! Common automotive blade-style fuses exist at 5A-20A in 5A Increments. Ex: 5A,10A,15A,20A Fast Acting Fuses: these are a more general-purpose fuse typically used with cabling and sturdier components. They are also known as Fast Blow or F-Type fuses There are not more than three current-carrying conductors in the raceway or cable, including spare conductors. Consult Section 310.15(C)(1) of the NEC for adjustment factors for more than three current-carrying conductors. Its possible your light bar draws less than 150 watts of power. 150W could be the maximum theoretical power, but the manufacturer may be driving the LEDs with less current. One way to find out the actual current draw is with a multimeter / amp-meter.

One common misconception about choosing the correct fuse size is that it’s dependent on the load of the circuit. Actually, the load of the circuit should have nothing to do with choosing a fuse size. The fuse size should be based on the SMALLEST wire (largest gage number) in the circuit. Slow Acting fuses include a delay mechanism that allows short, lower power electrical surges to pass through the circuit without the fuse blowing. They are also known as Slow Blow or Time Delay fuses. Dual Element fuses feature a higher performance delay mechanism In other instances, where an electrician may have found that there is no lighting circuit cables to the area where customers require lights, a fuse spur may have been introduced to feed the new lighting circuit. This fuse spur might have a three amp or a five amp fuse in it depending on the amount of lights within the circuit. You will typically find this when there has been an extension such as a conservatory, or you have installed garden lighting. Hey Noland, If the outlet cover says 12VDC 120W max, then that means you shouldn’t plug in devices that consume more than 10 amps.We needed a new battery for our Dyson V8 cordless hoover. I have used espares in the past for other appliance spares and found them to be competitively priced and reliable so this was the first option I chose when searching.

One possibility is that the cable is too small for a 13A fuse, but if that is the case then the installation is a serious bodge.A Type C fuse is actually a type of miniature circuit breaker (MCB). MCBs are a type of circuit breaker used with lower-powered circuits to cut off current in the event of an overload. Type C fuses trip circuits when the current exceeds the rated one by between five and ten times - i.e. at 100-500 amps for a 20amp device. Type D Fuses Do you have a blown out fuse that needs replacing? Then look no further, as eSpares has just the part you need. With this fuse in place you can prevent any unnecessary electrical damages or fire hazards occurring. If you find that you have a three amp fuse in the fuse spur feeding down to your appliance, and using the calculations above, you have a requirement for 13 amp fuse, then the fuse in the fuse spur needs to be upgraded to the 13 amp fuse.

Fused connection units are shipped by the manufacturer with a 13A fuse, this can be changed for a lower rating if the situation warrants it. Obtain the tools you will need - typically fuse wire, wire cutters, a screwdriver and a torch so you can see what you are doing Fuses (and circuit breakers) are rated such that they blow or trip before any part of the circuit gets to a dangerous current. You rate the fuse or breaker based on the lowest current rating of all the devices and wires in the circuit . A mains plug takes a 25.4 mm (1.25 inch) BS 1362 fuse, these fuses are available from any local supermarket or DIY store. They are cheap so don’t risk stealing a fuse from another appliance just to get your appliance going, unless you are using a fuse of the same rating. Thermal fuses have both a holding temperature rating and functioning temperature rating, both measured in celsius. The holding temperature is the range in which the fuse will hold without blowing. Meanwhile, the functioning temperature designates the lowest temperature at which the fuse will blow and break the circuit.

Which Fuse do I use?

Karen and her team provide a very efficient, friendly and pro-active service with a smile! We would not hesitate in recommending Bright Spark and fully intend to use them in the future for our electrical requirements." The new, simpler A-G energy rating scale is stricter and designed so that very few products are initially expected to achieve the top “A” rating. Im runing 2- 30 Watts led spot lights on 20 awg wire directy from 12volt car battery what size of fuse do i need. I had a number of light fittings that weren't working and, on a recommendation from a friend, called Bright Spark. Karen called in to evaluate and price the work the same day and sent one of her colleagues, to carry it out before the end of the week. It was a very impressive response and the work was done to an excellent standard. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Bright Spark and it's reassuring to know such a reliable firm exists the next time I need an electrician. You’ll usually find the fuse rating on the side of your fuse, which will be given in amps. Fuse rating is the amount of current needed for the fuse to blow or break. When this happens, it stops the electrical power from flowing through the electrical circuit. Why are fuses rated?

You should not run ANY SIZE fuse for your 150 watt LED or to “get the most out of it”!!!! You install a fuse to PROTECT the WIRE!!!!!! Resettable SMD fuses, by contrast, can be used multiple times. They function in a similar way to resettable thermal fuses and are available in multiple sizes and capacities. Striker Fuses So you just bought your stuff at Oznium and are getting ready to plan your installation while USPS gets it to your door. One of the first questions to ask when planning your installation is what size wire to use, which will later determine what fuse to use.

Thanks Phil for your wonderful and detailed explantions! It’s been very confusing because everyone has a different take, so I really appreciate from manufacturer’s answers. So these fuses should be wired from the battery lines? And not from the devices? Ultra-rapid fuses: typically used in sensitive circuitry and transistors to protect against short circuits, reacting almost instantaneously. These are also known as Very Fast Acting, Super Rapid and High-Speed fuses In your case, the manufacturer of the connection unit determined (somehow) that the "weakest link" in that circuit can only draw 5A before it exceeds its limits. Putting in a 13A fuse would thus allow that weakest link to draw almost 3 times what it may be designed to, which leads to increased heat and then fires. I want to ensure no power loss to plan on running a 10AWG wire. Is that too much, too low, or about right?
