About this deal

Slim's more reliable from what I've heard, as the E is smaller so the components are more cramped and likely to overheat. Also they dropped support for component and VGA cables by using a new video port and I believe there's no toslink port. In general the E is more cheaply made. Another slight difference: the touch power and eject controls from the 360 S have been replaced with more-traditional physical buttons. The one on the left is the "old style" Xbox 360. There were a couple of versions of this, and some early models did not come with HDMI ports. You're only going to buy one of these if you buy used, and I'd be careful. A lot of the early run had issues with overheating and were prone to the "red ring of death." Overview: The real reason to consider the Xbox 360 Elite over the S or the E models –other than nostalgia –is reliability. However, this somewhat of a double-edged sword as some Elite consoles are actually less reliable than the S and E models. At the end of the day, console reliability within the Elite comes down to motherboard inside of the Xbox 360. the most significant differences between an original 360 (2005-2008) and the "S" / slim version (2010) are related to the processor type, power consumption, and heat dissipation, all of which significantly affect the long-term functionality of the system.

Bottom Line: If reliability is really your only concern, then grab an Xbox 360 Elite console with a Jasper motherboard. That being said, both the Xbox 360 S and E models are also pretty solid in the reliability department, but Elite owners are missing out on some key features that came with the later consoles. Xbox 360 S Xbox 360 Elite vs S vs E: What Are The Differences? 6 GAF, I haven't owned a 360 since I sold my old Pro in 2011, and I miss playing some of the games I own for it. The Xbox 360 is remembered fondly by many gamers, as it is home to one of the best gaming libraries of all time. But, with all of the different models – Xbox 360 Elite vs Slim (or ‘S') vs E – over the course of the console's 11-year run, it can be difficult to discern which system is right for you.Additionally, the Xbox 360 Elite is missing the Kinect and optical audio-out ports present on the S, and it boasts only three USB ports as opposed to five and four on the later iterations. The hard drive is located on the top of the console as opposed to being underneath and more discretely placed inside the console as with the S and E models.

Also, the E sees a return to tactile buttons rather than the touch-sensitive Power and Eject buttons on the S models. Microsoft made some presumable cost-saving maneuvers with the E by removing the optical audio-out and one of the USB ports from the S model as well. What does this all mean (about the ports and cables and what-have-you)? I don't really speak techno-babble. Which model is best? Which Xbox 360 is right for you? Well, that's for you to decide. To make your decision easier, however, we have compiled all of the various pros and cons of each of the Xbox 360's major iterations. Xbox 360 Elite Xbox 360 Elite vs S vs E: What Are The Differences? 5 It seems clear that for almost any way you could judge the three, the Xbox 360 S is the winner. The only advantages the E has is similarity in design to the Xbox One, and perhaps a slight noise difference. The "classic" 360 is probably cheaper, but buying one used is slightly risky.Microsoft debuted the E console saying it would run quieter and cooler. During my few weeks with it I did notice those two things to be true, but nowhere near the dramatic improvement going from a "classic" white 360 (the 2005 version) to the 360 S (2010 version). If temperature and noise are your two biggest reasons for seeking an upgrade, allow me to talk you out of it. The Xbox 360 remains a great video and gaming console, but fans will be better served by older 360 bundles -- or waiting for the Xbox One.

Which should I get, the 360 Slim or the new E model? I've heard that the E drops the AV Connector, but I have no friggin' clue what that means. That is like the worst advise I've read here on GAF. Seriously? The thing sounds like a jet engine.
