About this deal

If you enjoy an edge-of-your-seat psychological thriller you will not go wrong reaching for this book. It is gripping and full of twists that leave you wondering all the time. A brilliant read that I would highly recommend. Get a copy – you will not be disappointed

I remember reading Hunter's first book, The Serial Killer's Wife- I listened to the entire audiobook in one day, which I have rarely managed to do. So when the Daughter book came on NetGalley too, I was ecstatic to get approved and see how it compared.

To begin with, the vet practice didn’t even have any veterinary nurses – we only had a small client list and Hayley ran pretty much everything while we did the direct pet care. Our plan had always been to build the business, though – and three years ago, things finally came together when we hired Vanessa, who is the senior nurse now. Nisha came on board more recently, at the same time as Abi who Hayley is training up on the reception but who also has her eye on becoming a veterinary nurse; she’s bright and enthusiastic and young enough to ‘mould’. It’s a happy practice. We all get along – each bringing a unique set of skills to the table. So many interesting characters they each added to the storyline and just when I thought that I knew who it was it wasn't. Jenny lives in a lovely remote quiet village with her husband and two children. But Jenny isn’t who she says she is and has a secret which she has been hiding and running from practically her whole life. This is an engaging book that really keeps you guessing with the curves and twists that are thrown in. We go along with Jenny to figure out if it is her or someone trying to frame her. There’s never a dull moment and what you think may not be it at all.

In a sleepy Devon village, a woman is taken from the streets. Local vet Jenny is horrified. This kind of thing doesn’t happen here. But it’s not the first time she’s been so close to a crime scene. The daughter of a prolific serial killer, she’s spent her whole life running from who she really is. And the crime is harrowingly similar to those her father committed all those years ago… Could Jen be responsible for everything that is going wrong? After all, her father is a serial killer....not that she has ever told Mark. Is she following in her fathers footsteps? This one was a slower burn than the first, and a bit less “psychological,” but I still enjoyed it. The interviews between the killers were great fun. I lol forward to where the author will go next. Too late, I realise I should’ve corrected her, praised her instead of letting her think she’d done a bad job, but my mind is not quite here. I need to make sure it is, though, because in twenty minutes I’m going to be operating on our first animal with Samir and Vanessa. I really enjoyed this story and listened to the audiobook over the course of a day. I was immediately drawn to Jenny and what she was going through. I honestly didn’t know whether I could trust her as a narrator or if she was truly innocent. Suffice to say there are lots of red herrings, misdirection’s and tension to keep the reader interested. Jenny herself makes some questionable choices, as does her husband. The title is enticing (well to me anyway!) the premise is good and the alternating points of view between Jenny and Mark works well, raising multiple questions as it’s clear both are hiding things of significance. The novel is interspersed with extracts from the Paul Slater story and this adds an extra element filling you with questions as well as adding chills. Be there in a minute. Can you hurry the kids along for me?’ I do my best to keep my voice steady, despite the fear rising within me. Why is my ring missing, and why is there mud under my nails?

We’ll talk later,’ I say, smiling to reassure him. I need the next eight hours to come up with a suitable explanation – a reason why I’m feeling this way. One that doesn’t involve me telling him the truth. Chapter 4 JENNY This is a fast paced, dark and gritty story that grips the reader’s attention. It was a whirlwind of chaos, twists and turns. After reading The Serial Killers Wife I could not wait to delve into her latest. A bit of of a slow burner but I just had to keep on reading. The plot was unbelievable in places but what the hell it was still a very entertaining read.

Thanks so much – sorry I’m late.’ I’m flustered, more than I’ve ever been before. ‘Samir not here yet?’

Alice Hunter is a genius!! Stand up and take a bow because you are truly amazing!! Wow what a book!!! I’m unsure where to start with this one, I definitely don’t know how a written review will do this justice. But when a local woman goes missing in her tiny village, one who does not get along with Jenny, it causes a lot of upset and concern. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my free e-ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review! Morning, Jen – thank God. I was beginning to worry.’ Hayley scoots her chair out from the reception desk and stands, reaching over the counter to pass me a piece of paper. ‘These are the early morning animals in for surgery. Nisha has done the preliminaries; Vanessa is organising the operating room and I’ve booked them in.’ Her voice is clipped. I read the Serial Killer’s Wife first and assumed this book was a continuation. But it’s a different story unrelated. The author said, it does continue the theme of a murderer within the family and the effects this has on a particular member. However, I am probably in the minority (so don't take just my opinion), but I couldn't wait for this book to be over. I thought The Serial Killer's Wife was a brilliant read and looked forward to her next title. How clever to come up with the idea for this one. Most of the story is told through a dual narrative carried by Mark and Jenny; additional facts are provided by recalled conversations between a father and daughter, and extracts from a true crime book and commentary from the anonymous author about interactions with the book’s subject.
