About this deal

This is such an amazing, gorgeous book. It's exactly like opening up an adventurer's notebook: seeing all their beautiful watercolor sketches and handwritten details of their adventures, with little notes and reminders written just for you. It's filled with facts about nature and wildlife, about camping in all kinds of environments, about necessary skills and safety when out on an adventure. It's filled with illustrations to study, words to devour, information to absorb. It's absolutely incredible. An anthology to inspire and help children understand how far self-belief and guts took adventurers from the past - and to wonder how far these qualities could take them too. Includes stunning illustrations. This is the loveliest, and most useful, adventure book I have seen in a long time.' -- Alastair Humphreys Very oriented to boy scouts, adventure and survival tips.. from how to build a tent or shelter to how to treat animal bites.. Skilful drawings show deserts, rapids, canals, forests, mountains, jungles, islands, oceans and the equipment for surviving in them, with tips on how to construct shelters or rafts, or improvise an oar. The breathtaking landscapes offer a sense of the grandeur of the natural world. And would-be explorers might enjoy the anecdotes about being dragged by the leg by a hyena, or eating maggots from a pig's carcass.' - Sunday Times

You'll be transported by riveting adventure tales from around the globe, like being dragged off by a hyena in Botswana, surviving a Saharan dust storm, being woken by an intrepid emperor penguin in Antarctica, and coming face-to-face with a venomous bushmaster (one of the most dangerous snakes on the planet)-all told in lyrical prose and illustrations that wonder at the mysterious beauty of the wild. Featuring tales of peril and danger weaved with practical tips, children can discover how to camp in the wild, create their own rafts, make different types of shelters with what the environment provides, first aid and essential supplies in an explorer’s kit.Interspersed throughout the guide are excerpts from the journals of The Unknown Adventurer. He cycles 6,000 miles through Africa, sketches birds in Papua, and confronts a bushmaster in Guyana. From these glimpses, a personality appears: he is observant and resourceful; has a gentle, sly humour and reverence for the big picture: “It’s often only in the wild that the full meaning and enormity of the universe dawns on us.” Editor Teddy Keen is an adventurer and art director, based in London. The Unknown Adventurer is still believed to be at large in the wild.
