About this deal

A collectible bottling of Tamnavulin 10 year old from the 1980s, bottled for the Italian drinks company Moon Imports.

Bottled at 40% abv, the whisky is said to have ‘enticing aromas of vanilla, caramel, banana and milk chocolate’ on the nose and a palate with ‘warm, sweet flavours of maple syrup, raisin and orange’. Woefully, the Tamnavulin is rather typical of 1960s-constructed distilleries and the exterior is decidedly industrial, in stark contrast to its markedly stunning locality. Originating from Spain, the sherry casks selected to finesse this single malt scotch whisky provide the signature notes of raisin, vanilla and orange. A perfect complement to the sweet, mellow and smooth taste of Tamnavulin Nose - Aromatic with enticing aromas of vanilla, caramel, banana and milk chocolate with a hint of fresh ginger. The colour is a deep amber and the nose is immediately fruity and sweet. Distinct aromas of green apple and pear mingle with others of muscovado sugar, dark dried fruit (think of raisin and sultana especially) and warming spice (imagine cinnamon and gingerbread in particular. There are also hints of milk chocolate and malted biscuits.Palate - Warm, sweet flavours of maple syrup, raisin and orange with subtle notes of apricot and melon. Tamnavulin’s newest single malt joins its other Sherry-finished no-age-statement expression, Double Cask. Tamnavulin was one of many distilleries that opened during the whisky boom of the 1960’s. Established by Invergordon Distillers, its purpose was to supply malt whisky that could be utilised in the company’s blended scotch brands. Located in the heart of Speyside, in the tiny village of Tomnavoulin, the distillery stood where once there was a Carding Mill, used by local farmers to turn their fleeces into wool. It was once common practice for Speyside distilleries to adopt the suffix of “Glenlivet” but it could be argued Tamnavulin had more of a right to it than most, being only the second distillery to physically reside within the glen of the River Livet itself. Our Vintages Collection is a set of rare, aged Speyside whiskies each with a rich, distinctive character and a true reflection of the history that lies behind our doors.

The Double Cask expression was released in 2016 to celebrate Tamnavulin’s 50th anniversary, and was the first single malt released by the distillery in 20 years. Whiskybase B.V. (“Whiskybase”, “we” or “us”, company details below) offers a whisky enthusiasts online platform that provides its members access to the most comprehensive, transparent and trusted resource of whisky bottles and allows and stimulates its members to contribute information about whisky bottles to the platform (“Service”). It’s even a little bready. Then there’s some raisin and sultana with walnut and cinnamon. There’s apple, vanilla and caramel too.Unless mandatory applicable law provides otherwise, your use of and membership to the Service are exclusively governed by Dutch law. We shall first try to settle any dispute over a dram of whisky. Disputes that cannot be settled over multiple drams of whisky shall be solely submitted to the court of Amsterdam, The Netherlands unless mandatory applicable law provides otherwise. The Tamnavulin whisky distillery draws its water from underground springs in the surrounding hillside and takes its cooling waters from the River Livet, whose headwaters rise in the Grampians in Moray before flowing eleven miles until their confluence with the River Avon. Matured in American oak barrels and finessed by three different types of sherry cask to complement the sweet, mellow flavour of Tamnavulin. Distilled at Tamnavulin on the banks of Speyside's River Livet, a superb 13-year-old single malt found its way into our collection of casks. Matured in a refill hogshead between 2009 and 2022, 381 bottles are now here at MoM Towers, waiting to find a new home. And I was idd pleasantly surprised. By the noise and palate I would have believed u just the same if u told me this was a full on sherry maturation.. Im smelling it right now and I find these beautiful musty old book notes, caramel and it just begs for a sip (but.. No weekend yet =)). Only in the mouth the fluid could have profit majorly from a higher strength.. Not that the 40° is disturbing the experience in itself but I think the mouth feel and flavor would benefit massively from this.. Full disclosure: I was sent this sample so that I might take part in a virtual tasting. As always I will strive to give an honest and impartial opinion on the quality of the dram and the value for money it represents. year old Tamnavulin single malt, bottled by Signatory! This one was distilled in November 1978 and left to age in an Oloroso sherry butt until February 2001, when it was bottled at cask strength with an outturn of 548 bottles. If we decide not to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Terms, such decision shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. I prefer bourbon coming from USA but wanted to try this while traveling in Sweden. This Tamnavulin Sherry Cask Edition is a lovely, gentle and easy drinking whisky. It has some lovely characteristics coming from both the distillery spirit and those three types of ex-sherry cask. It is no 'sherry bomb' or 'sherry monster', but displays some deliciously subtle aromas and flavours.
