About this deal

This 3-part webinar series by Sensory Profile 2 by author Dr. Winnie Dunn uses case study examples to support health and education professionals to incorporate sensory processing knowledge into everyday practice. This series has been provided with the support of Occupational Therapy Australia and is reproduced here with the permission of Occupational Therapy Australia. Case Study 1 Includes unlimited digital scoring and reporting per user within an account for all Sensory Profile 2 and Adolescent/Adult Sensory Profile forms. Spring Worksheets for Handwriting and Fine Motor Skills– Therapists love this resource because it includes a fine motor and visual motor warm-up that can be integrated right into the handwriting activity, using a fun theme.

The Sensory Profile 2 family of assessments provides you with standardised tools to help evaluate a child's sensory processing patterns in the context of everyday life. These significantly revised questionnaires can help you determine how sensory processing may be contributing to or interfering with the child's participation in activities. The forms are completed by caregivers and teachers, who are in the strongest position to observe the child's response to sensory interactions that occur throughout the day. While most, if not all kids, can benefit from sensory activities, if your child does have a SPD diagnosis then a sensory diet is a tremendously helpful tool because they’re sensory needs are impacting their life in significant ways.Using and Interpreting the Sensory Profile in Clinical Practice On Demand Training: 3 Hours A103000195531 Do you or your child ever experience sleep problems rooted in feelings of stress, anxiety, or restlessness? You are not alone. Many people all around the world struggle with these same feelings every day. Here at Hug Sleep , we know just how important calm sleep can be for a peaceful home environment. The Sleep Pod Move is a blanket that can facilitate deep touch pressure therapy. This cocoon-shaped blanket makes it easy to receive the calming remedy of a sensory compression sheet with none of the restrictions. Using the School-Companion Sensory Profile 2 to support a child in third grade who is becoming more socially isolated. A child hates the bright light and noises in large stores. His family keeps a bag in the car with some headphones, sunglasses, and some small toys he can fidget with in the store.

So often, we hear that sensory recommendations are not carried over into the home or classroom. The tips and tools in The Sensory Lifestyle Handbook uses child-led interests and daily life interactions so kids WANT to participate in sensory diet activities their bodies need…because it’s part of play! In fact, using a set of sensory diet cards as a resource where the student pulls various sensory supports to use at specific times or during transitions in the classroom can be very helpful. Using the Toddler Sensory Profile 2 to support a 2 1/2 year old whose family are requesting help with hygiene and meal-times.

When you use the template, think of it as a sensory diet worksheet that might be ever-changing and flexible! Sensory games in the classroom can also be beneficial for helping students to calm down if they begin to feel overwhelmed. Sensory games are games and activities that stimulate a child's senses. This includes the senses of touch, taste, sight, smell, and sound. In this game, children will roll a die and be given a sensory-based activity to complete based on the number. Step 3: Create a Sensory Diet Template and Apply/Trial Various Sensory Strategies- In this stage of sensory diet development, strategies need to be trialed for effectiveness within the lifestyle of the child and family. Sensory strategies need to be incorporated as indicated across a variety of settings, based on various sensory needs as they change throughout the day. While I can’t possibly cover every possible situation, use these sensory diet examples to inspire how you create your child’s sensory diet using the template. A lot of these examples are from my own home or from kids that I’ve worked with:

First, let’s talk about what a sensory path is. You’ve probably seen the videos of kids completing motor activities in a hallway or even on a sidewalk. There are typically several sensory stations, or sensory and movement-based activities that kids can do as they move through the sensory walk. Finally, if you are looking to relieve feelings of stress and anxiety in your life, be sure to make your home as physically and emotionally comfortable as possible, so every time you walk through that door, it’s walking into your own comforting space just for you. Use this information to come up with predictions and opportunities to support the individual with specific accommodations or modifications to the environment. Not only is it great for an overwhelmed adult, but it also serves as a powerful way to calm overactive children and help them get some rest.

Spring Cootie Catcher– This printable resource is a fine motor, handwriting, and eye-hand coordination activity as well as bilateral coordination, and motor planning skill work. If the activity wasn’t what they needed or didn’t “work” for any number of reasons, it doesn’t mean it was a failure. That same activity may work tomorrow. Offer it or suggest it at least 3-4 times before you abandon it.

Likewise, some of us are thrill seekers and enjoy experiences like jumping from airplanes or bungee jumping. Others like to stay firmly on the ground and play it safe when it comes to leisure activities. Are you new to using Sensory Profile? Perhaps you’ve been using it for a while and need some guidance on getting the most out of it. Either way, this new training is for you! We've taken the most frequently asked questions about interpreting the Sensory Profile and created a training module that teaches you a system and structure for understanding the test scores and using them to inform your clinical reasoning.
