About this deal

Factor the superbly versatile stand, decent connectivity, plus a host of extra features, and there really are no weak links or compromises here - the VP16-OLED is everything a creative could want from a portable monitor. Though we haven’t done the review on it just yet, one of our Computing editors has had a proper hands-on experience with the monitor, and it truly delivers in color coverage and color accuracy. With 100% sRGB and 100% Rec. 709 color gamut, as well as Calman verified color accuracy, this is truly better for video and photo editing than all others on this list. That’s without mentioning its other features that simplify your workflow.

Best of all, they don't need to be plugged into the wall, but can be powered from your laptop via USB. And some even have a built-in rechargeable battery, so you don't have to drain your laptop's. (A self-powered portable monitor is also ideal if you want to extend the screen space of your camera phone.) Setting up a portable monitor is usually as simple as connecting a regular wired mouse or card reader. If you're using a reasonably modern laptop with a USB Type-C port that supports Power Delivery, you can connect a portable monitor to this with just a single cable and it should just work - plug and play - with no additional power connection required. Are portable monitors really that 'portable'? At 82cm wide, this stout wooden stand is big enough to support two 24-inch widescreen monitors side by side, a laptop and a standalone monitor alongside, or a total weight up to 10kg. A full-size HDMI port means you don't need to mess around with mini-HDMI cables or adapters, and the two USB-C ports can carry both data and power. There's even a standard USB port and a Micro SD card slot, should you wish to load up apps, movies or music to the device. UPERFECT 4K Portable Monitors takes the FreeSync and HDR technology, provide amazing 4K Ultra HD (3840 x 2160) picture quality, and clear, smooth and excellent performance. It's enjoyable while watching movie, playing games with the 4K monitor. Perfect for photographers and designers.

Monitors that make use of in-plane switching (IPS) technology are generally preferred for general use over vertical-alignment (VA) and twisted-nematic (TN) panels due to their wider off-axis viewing angles and good color accuracy. Many recent mobile monitors are IPS, but there's a catch. When we test a panel for its color gamut, we first test the sRGB color space, which is the default color space for the web and many other applications. This color space comprises essentially all the colors that can be made by mixing red, green, and blue. Most desktop monitors cover at least 95% of sRGB, and we have seen portable monitors attain similar coverage. However, until a few years ago, most mobile IPS monitors we reviewed showed much more limited overall color coverage (60% to 72% of sRGB) and very similar color profiles—indicating poor red and purple coverage and slightly enhanced blue-greens. Because of their nearly identical "color signatures," we assumed that these panels came from the same or similar sources, although they are on monitors made by a variety of manufacturers. We considered how many types of connections (USB-C, USB-A, VGA, etc.) the monitors supported and the number of connectivity ports they had. We looked at the display brightness and the viewing angle width.

The ASUS ZenScreen Touch app works on Android 6.0 and later versions. Device must support Host Storage mode and HID multi-touch function. ZenScreen Touch MB16AMT has been tested and works with the following list of Android devices. The quality of the screen is fantastic, but we did notice that there are some lighter areas at the bottom of the display, a sign that internal parts are pushing against the panel. The Mini-HDMI port is also a bit fiddly and means you'll need to keep the bundled HDMI-to-Mini-HDMI cable safe. Wood Monitor Stand, Monitor Stand with Drawers, Computer Monitor Riser, Computer Stand, Wood Laptop Stand, Adjustable Desk, Monitor Riser Battery or no battery is another critical question. You can get portable screens both with and without. Screens without a battery are cheaper and lighter. However, if you’re using a mobile screen away from the mains, they will drain your laptop’s battery pretty fast. Over the years, I have reviewed iPad and iPhone science apps, plus the occasional camera, laptop, keyboard, and mouse. I've also written a host of articles about astronomy, space science, travel photography, and astrophotography for PCMag and its past and present sibling publications (among them, Mashable and ExtremeTech), as well as for the PCMag Digital Edition.

The OSD is the monitor's menu system, governing user-controllable settings such as brightness, contrast, color levels, picture mode, and aspect ratio. It is often arranged in several submenus. Although a few models include several buttons to use in navigating the OSD, a single button or switch to control it is more common. When we're looking at the panels for mobile monitors, the main factors we evaluate are the screen size, the native resolution, the brightness range, the technology the panel uses, and the maker's claims for color-gamut coverage.

Seananigans You could, by the same token, argue that buying a TV is pointless as Switch has its own screen. Many users prefer to use a mobile monitor that has the same screen size and native resolution as the laptop screen they are using it with. That said, I have found these panels to be forgiving and have had no trouble running portable displays that are slightly larger than my laptop's own screen. As long as you don't mismatch the mobile monitor's and laptop's screen aspect ratio (which, almost always, is a normal 16:9 widescreen ratio), you are unlikely to experience much trouble in matching them up. Your words, not mine - I was merely stating that your argument that Switch has a screen "right out of the box" is flimsy at best. Yeah, I did not even open my 2nd EVGA AIO. I just kept the old one and took the new one out of 1 box and put it in the other with the return label. I did not want to disassemble my PC. sanderev 15" or 17" is quite a bit larger than the built-in display - these are basically laptop displays vs. the Switch's smaller phablet-size display. Their clear use case is for tabletop 2-player gaming (aka the often-forgotten "third mode" of the Switch) but they might also help with the "tiny text" problem of many games in handheld mode.Cons: Fiddly controls, screen is quite dull The "Look Ma, No Wires!" Option: AVA wirelessHD Image: Damien McFerran / Nintendo Life Hybrid-signal USB-C and micro-HDMI ports provide versatile connectivity with smartphones, laptops, game consoles, cameras, tablets and more When considering one of these portable monitors, that grab-and-go quality that sets it apart from the best computer monitors is key. If it’s too big or heavy, then that defeats the purpose. Even if you’re not a road warrior but have limited desk space, it’s worth using one of these displays for your workflow.
