Ketchum sounds similar to catch 'em. First name can be found in Japanese name, S ato shi. Also, Ash is a default name for Red in Pokémon Red and Blue. Ash trees are suggested as another explanation as well. It's hard to believe we are already halfway through 2023! As we chug through this whirlwind of a year, I am pleased to share some recent administrative updates. As many of you may know, last month, Bulbapedia held a staff drive to recruit new members to our team. While we received many impressive applications, there were a few that particularly stood out. Please help me congratulate 4iamking, Anzasquiddles, Boblers, Landfish7, Nikuriku, and Storm Aurora who will be joining the team as Junior Administrators. After winning the Alola League championship, Ash was given the right to have an exhibition match against the Masked Royal. However, during a Guzzlord invasion of the Manalo Stadium, the Masked Royal's true identity as Professor Kukui was exposed. With his cover blown, Kukui decided to battle Ash as himself and make the exhibition match a Full Battle, which Ash agreed to. During the battle, Ash's Torracat was finally able to defeat its longtime rival, Professor Kukui's Incineroar, and evolve into an Incineroar itself. Before Kukui could send out his last Pokémon, Tapu Koko appeared and took its place in the battle. When Ash was down to his last Pokémon, Pikachu, Tapu Koko gave Kukui a Tapunium Z, while Ash's Electrium Z once again transformed into a Pikashunium Z, allowing both Pokémon to unleash their signature Z-Moves. In the end, Ash's Pikachu's Z-Move proved superior and defeated Tapu Koko, ending the exhibition match in Ash's victory. Shortly after returning home from his Sinnoh journey, Ash traveled with Delia and Professor Oak on a trip to the Unova region. After losing in a battle to Trip and seeing the power of the Legendary Pokémon Zekrom, Ash became interested in traveling Unova to meet new Pokémon, as well as new friends. In Generation V, Generation VII, and Generation VIII, the amount of experience gained is dependent on both Pokémon's levels: the lower the victor's level is compared to the defeated Pokémon, the more experience points the victor will gain. In the Special Demo Version of Pokémon Sun and Moon, the player, Sun, receives an unsigned letter from somebody heavily implied to be Ash. Included with this letter is a Greninja, with "Ash" being listed as its Original Trainer. Like in the anime, Ash's Greninja can transform into Ash-Greninja by using its unique Ability, Battle Bond. As of A Chilling Curse!, Ash has caught at least one Pokémon belonging to all eighteen types (this includes Pokémon he owns or has owned that have been retroactively made Fairy-type). An attempt was made by Fandom early in Bulbapedia history that would have seen Bulbapedia become part of the Fandom enterprise. It was, clearly, unsuccessful. Since then, Fandom has made a number of offers for Bulbagarden, most recently in April 2010. All of them have been rejected in a rather emphatic fashion. Ever since facing Wattson in Watt's with Wattson?, Ash has not won a Gym Badge in the same episode in which he meets the Gym Leader. As of 2020 [update], there have been 23 animated films and one live action film. The first nineteen animated films are based on the television series, with the original film being remade into the 22nd. The 20th, 21st and 23rd animated films are set in an alternate continuity to the anime. The films are produced by the animation studios OLM, Production I.G, Xebec, and Wit Studio, and distributed in Japan by Toho, with various studios distributing the films in North America. They were directed by Kunihiko Yuyama and Tetsuo Yajima, and written by Takeshi Shudo, Hideki Sonoda, Atsuhiro Tomioka, Shōji Yonemura, Eiji Umehara, and Aya Takaha.

As of The Road Most Traveled!, Ash has begun rotating his team with Pokémon from Professor Oak's Lab and Kukui's home. The only fixed member on his team is Pikachu.
