It rained a little last night and we stayed perfectly dry. It was also quite windy and it felt nice and sturdy. I’d have no hesitation in taking this out on the fells. The hydrostatic head of 5000mm exceeds most other tents and puts it firmly in the same league as serious mountain tents.
When buying Weekend Tents, the quality of the product is going to be one of the factors that you really scrutinise before you commit to buying.As mentioned, the inner door is double-layer and it is fully protected, so you can keep it with the mesh only all the time unless you feel cold of course. There is a mesh section on the inner tent and it matches the rear vent, see the picture. So there is not much to object here. The inner door with mesh, and the rear vent. Of the 3 the OEX was the cheapest by quite a long way (on sale at 89 quid). It also had the most internal space and the biggest porch. Important for us as we may occasionally use it as a 4 man tent (see above regarding wife). The tent comes with two carry bags in the main bag, one is with the inner tent plus poles, and the other contains the shell. This is good to have if you want to share the weight with your partners. OEX tents have been built to withstand the trials of outdoor adventures and expeditions. They use 7075 lightweight aluminium poles, with durable poly flysheets that won't falter in arduous conditions, and will give you years of service. Regarding the size, the tent is officially for three people. They do not provide the exact number for the area, but my estimate is that you have around 43 ft² (4 m²) in the inner tent. It is difficult to imagine three people inside but perhaps this is possible. The kids are old enough to start hitting the hills now and I wanted something big enough for the 3 of us (and maybe the missus if I can convince her). Very minor downside, can be a little tough getting the poles in there straps as they have limited tensioning allowance and the eyebrow canopy is quite tight too. The fabric: The tent is a true double-layer type so you have a polyester shell with the vestibule and its waterproof rating is impressive 5000 mm. There is a spacious porch for cooking and admin and it has a built in groundsheet which is attached to the inner. You can roll this away if you want, but I found it really useful to have a nice dry spot for storing boots and our bag.
