About this deal

Today, I'm going to show you many different ways to apply masking fluid. I'm Jess Rice. I'm an art teacher and beginners are my specialty. So make sure it's really nicely dried off. I just use my fingertip. You can use a kneaded eraser or a paper towel or anything to wipe these off. I like to use my fingertip because I like to be able to feel if I've left any masking fluid on there. Consider what areas you want to remain white or lighter and mask those areas, and apply your masking fluid carefully. Start with your brush on the tape at roughy 90 degrees to the model. Stroke the brush toward the area to be painted, i.e away from the masking tape boundary – This will minimise the risk of paint seeping under the tape. White masking tape is an interesting method to use to create lines or shapes in a painting. If you require a horizon edge on a lake or sea scene, simply attach a piece of tape gently on the line. 2. How do I remove masking tape?

A third way of canopy masking is using masking fluid, This is normally only suitable for larger parts where the canopy frame is well defined. You can easily create masking fluid at home with latex fabric paint and some water. Pour equal amounts of water and latex fabric cement into a container that can be closed and become airtight. Gently mix the fabric cement and water together with a spoon to prevent creating bubbles. If you would like your masking fluid to have a tint or color, you can simply mix small amounts of watercolor paint into the fluid until you are satisfied. Liquid frisket is just another name for masking fluid, the same latex-based fluid used to prevent paint from getting onto certain areas.Remove masking fluid three to four hours after you have applied it, do not leave for days as it will become difficult to remove.

Candle wax cannot be removed; the paint slides over the top and rests on the surface that isn’t waxed. 3. Ideal places to use candle wax for masking

But this is the ultimate for really fine lines. All right, let me dry that off. Oh, I want to show you one more thing. Let's set this aside. You can also put masking fluid on paint that you've already laid down. So I've already put a wash down on this painting, but maybe I want to preserve some of these yellows and things in here.

It is easy to use when you follow our top tips and can really help to create crisp white lines in your artwork. There are some really exciting effects you can create and it is satisfying to peel off after your watercolour has dried. When using a new product its alway best to do a trial run or a little test sheet before starting your main project. For the jetty, Naples yellow with a hint of cadmium yellow was painted with dry horizontal brushstrokes to suggest wooden planks. The post was also painted in the same colour. Is there a way to make masking fluid at home? Yes, you can make your own art masking fluid at home with some simple ingredients. Below are two methods you can try. For the first method you will need the following:If any paint has run under the tape this can be removed easily while the paint is still damp with a flat brush. Before you even begin, it is best to plan what you are going to do. Make sure you know where you want your highlights to sit or what areas you want the masking fluid to be. Draw a basic pencil sketch to create an outline of your work. You can then gather everything you require, which can include the following:
