Being Scotland's first Carbon Negative distillery means we remove twice as much carbon from the air as we emit. Lone Wolf will be unleashed fully in early 2017. All of this care and attention delivers a citrus rush – led by grapefruit – almost as distinctive as the St Austell Brewery’s Proper Job ale, but rapidly releases a range of other flavours, including almonds, coriander and cardamom. Like the French QVT gin we covered recently, lavender puts in an aromatic appearance to complement the thrusting Tuscan juniper; all nuanced with pink peppercorns, Angelica and orris root. Kaffir lime, mace and lemongrass add further depths. We don’t want to rest on the laurels of a location, like so many within the industry. Flexibility is vitally important to us, and the Lone Wolf distillery will have experimentation at its heart. With the pilot still we can produce a huge range of potential spirits, and with our epic barrel store we can age and then blend the results to allow a fascinating range of flavours to develop.

Once everything is online and all systems are go, we will become the only craft distillery in Scotland to make our base spirit from grain, under one roof. This is hugely important to us – and it starts with our BrewDog vodka. We've removed a section of our brewhouse roof and installed a colossal 19m high 60-plate rectification column, to get the purest, cleanest spirit possible.The UK has become accustomed to accepting the deceitful behaviour of those who hide their falsehoods by constantly repeating a mantra of Purity, Filtration, Premium. But this is an underhand deal – mere buzzwords snatched from the ether to distract from the reality of the industry as it exists today. LoneWolf Vodka is on to them. Charlatans, your time is over. V2 gin is a fabulous drop - an excellent balance of botanicals with the hint of lavender coming through at the end. I really like the spiciness that the pink peppercorns add. LoneWolf has arrived to challenge the perceptions of what a spirit can be.At BrewDog Distilling Company, we make LoneWolf gin from scratch using our own Abstrakt Vodka as the base spirit. Not many gin makers can make this claim, but to us it’s the only way to do it, because we believe that quality is the cornerstone of our DNA. We want to stretch the boundaries of what a distillery can do – and what a distillery should do. Starting with our own all-grain distilled vodka, through our bespoke gins and whiskies and a range of other spirits besides – we can’t wait to make this natural progression for BrewDog and make as big an impact on the spirits industry as we did on the beer industry. The resulting 97 % purity vodka is then given final clarification via a ‘demetheliser’ tower before the spirit gets infused with any of the dozen plus botanicals and is distilled again in smaller copper stills.
