About this deal

Samsung’s 49” Odyssey G9 gaming monitor is designed for exceptionally immersive gaming, and high productivity in any field. With captivating contours, Samsung’s first 1000R ultrawide curved monitor wraps around you for the most immersive and realistic viewing experience. This 32:9 ultrawide view lets you open multiple windows at once and game, watch and chat, all at the same time. I just love mine. It is really a great experience, it sets PC gaming apart. Regardless of the screen size and format, fast, great color, acceptable contrast. Mini LED local dimming would be great IF they are fast enough for gaming.

As the monitor has both HDMI 2.0 and Display ports, you can easily hook up a desktop computer, laptop or games console. The anti-glare layer is very effective, which is good because avoiding reflections with a screen of this shape and size would be difficult. It’s still a good idea to avoid sunny windows, as they can wash out parts of the image. But it is bright enough to combat medium to bright room lighting. The system menu has the rest of the monitor’s convenience options and the local dimming option. Auto works well for both SDR and HDR content and leaves brightness available so you can set the peak output anywhere you wish. Dynamic Contrast is also effective with two levels of aggressiveness. Standard leaves the brightness adjuster available, while Ultimate grays it out and displays a very bright and contrasty image. We experimented with the Local Dimming and Dynamic Contrast options using both static and moving images. Local Dimming is a toggle, off or auto. Dynamic Contrast has two levels, the more aggressive of which grays out the brightness control and makes the picture quite vivid. It’s usable for games or videos but only for short periods. The Standard option is a little easier on the eyes and allows for brightness adjustments. It increased contrast nicely without clipping any highlight or shadow detail.

Samsung has also included built-in picture-in-picture and picture-by-picture support. This means you can treat this monitor as two displays, and we frequently did this. We're able to set up the Mac mini 2020 on one screen, and our gaming rig on the other. Another use-case is plugging two DisplayPort cables into a single PC, so you can treat the Samsung Odyssey G9 as two 27-inch 1440p displays. This helps a lot when you want to stream, and still have two displays. Monitors are also out of eye vision field. you wont see the edges of the game and the center at the same time

Samsung 49-Inch Odyssey G9 Gaming Monitor Review: Big Screen

There is a caveat, though. This is not only a very expensive gaming monitor, but you're going to need a load of very expensive hardware to drive it to its full potential. The 5,120 x 1,440 display resolution isn't quite 4K, but it's close. Combine that with the 240Hz refresh rate, and you have a gaming monitor that graphics cards are going to be struggling to max out for years to come. Gaming was a lot of fun with the G9. It’s a completely unique experience, different from the other two 49-inch megawides we’ve reviewed. The 1000R curve creates an environment around you that truly feels immersive. If you turn off the room lights, it isn’t much different than VR goggles. Add good speakers or headphones, and you have a true sensory experience when playing first-person games. FAQ for Samsung TV. Find more about how to troubleshoot when your Smart Monitor M80B remote is not working with Samsung Support. To put that in perspective, even with an Intel Core i9-10900K and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090, we get around 190 to 200fps in World of Warcraft with ray tracing off and the graphics settings up to the "10" preset. So, even with the most powerful hardware in the world, this monitor is still incredibly difficult to drive. But, with something that costs as much as this monitor does, it's good that you'll still be pushing it in a few years once the next generation of hardware finally comes out. We've also been playing a lot of World of Warcraft: Shadowlands on this monitor, and the sheer amount of screen real estate you have with a 32:9 monitor is so cool. In the past, we've been yelled at by raid leaders for having too many add-ons on our screen at any given time (we play a healer, sue us), as having a lot of stuff on a 16:9 screen can obscure your field of vision.FAQ for Samsung TV. Creation Consumer Finance Ltd is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (Register no. 311518). The Custom picture mode works well for all content if you don’t mind a little extra color saturation. sRGB is there if you need accuracy or are a purist, but with 88% coverage of DCI-P3 SDR material doesn’t look oversaturated on the G9. And you can use HDR in Windows without penalty. The brightness control remains available if you want to dial down the output, but even with brightness set to its maximum, the Windows desktop never looked too harsh. g-unit1111 said:I've seen this thing in person and it's a behemoth. I would love to get one, but a bit out of my price range. I think it would be awesome for Flight Simulator! The Samsung Odyssey G9 is a gorgeous monitor too. The bottom bezel has this gunmetal gray textured finish with the Samsung label printed at the bottom. The sides and top aren't the thinnest bezels we've ever seen, but a screen this big and this curved, that's likely a limitation of the construction. They're pretty unobtrusive, though.
