About this deal

DALI is now distributed by Lenbrook Americas and that raises the stakes for this particular portable Bluetooth loudspeaker. Lenbrook is the parent company of NAD, PSB, and Bluesound and delivers far greater access to retail opportunities for this new speaker going forward. Our comparison speaker for testing is the five-star JBL Xtreme 3, but in direct comparison the JBL feels just a tad over-emphasised through the bass and just slightly muddier through the low end as a result. It’s a small difference, but still noteworthy. Verdict At What Hi-Fi? we review hundreds of products every year at our state-of-the-art testing facilities in London, Reading and Bath. We have complete control over the testing process, and we also review products as a team as opposed to individually, ensuring no opinion goes unheard. Our team is filled with experts in the audio world with over 100 combined years of reviewing experience. I needed a break last week after being under the weather and overworked, so I took the DALI Katch G2 with me to the boardwalk and in the car. However, Bluetooth-only speakers are generally more portable (as they don't require an internet connection to work) and often more affordable. How many watts is good for a home Bluetooth speaker?

For a true stereo sound, connect two Katches together, wirelessly. This is ideal for larger rooms, parties or simply for enjoying the music as it was originally intended – in spacious stereo sound. And while we're not expecting audiophile-grade quality sound here, brands have realised that people do care about sound quality alongside other user-friendly features, so the quality of Bluetooth speakers' audio has risen significantly in recent times. The aluminum body of the compact and portable DALI KATCH G2 has enough inner volume for its dual woofers to deliver a considerable amount of low-end punch. The sound from the DALI KATCH G2 is rendered by a 2-Way stereo speaker system with a larger passive membrane supporting the woofer in the otherwise closed cabinet. In contrast to the original KATCH, the DALI KATCH G2 cabinet now has an internal wall dividing it into two inner volumes, creating improved channel separation. If all you want from a decent outdoor speaker is portability and affordability, you really couldn't do much better than the excellent Tribit Stormbox Micro 2. A tiny, satchel-friendly Bluetooth speaker, this is easily one of the best we’ve tested at this meagre price point. Sonos has been synonymous with multi-room music for many years now, and the Era 100 – the spiritual successor to the excellent Sonos One– pushes the bar even higher than before. The DALI KATCH G2 is a portable loudspeaker and will be used in a large variety of situations. With its two different audio profiles, you can choose between a neutral frequency response, perfect for most listening situations, or a warmer response that will work perfectly in larger rooms or when the music needs just that little extra.

Bang & Olufsen isn’t noted for following the herd. In the Danish electronics specialist’s catalogue you'll find a wheel-shaped wireless speaker, a TV that opens up like a butterfly, and an 8200-watt monolithic speaker comprising 18 drivers. Its output could reasonably be described as "innovative" – and the B&O Beosound A1 (2nd Gen) wireless speaker is no exception. I’ve been fortunate to review the Sonus faber Omnia, and Bluesound Flex Series Wireless Loudspeakers over the past 12 months and both left me really impressed. Umístěním měničů na obou stranách systému DALI KATCH G2 se zvuk integruje s celou místností a přináší překvapivě skvělý zvukový zážitek. Na rozdíl od původního modelu KATCH má nyní skříň DALI KATCH G2 vnitřní stěnu, která ji rozděluje na dva vnitřní objemy, což zlepšuje oddělení kanálů.Positioning is critical as the sound comes out of both sides and gives a wide sound, but does vary as you move you or it about. It's hard to get it just right so I'll enjoy experimenting. If all you have to say on the subject of a tiny portable speaker is that it contains some leather on a forum thats set up for reviewing sound and the overall quality of an item then I'm afraid your opinion isn't worth noting. In terms of outright volume, the speaker gives a little ground to the larger Harman Kardon Citation 200 (p68), but is solid nevertheless. The presentation strikes a great balance between a room-filling spread and avoiding feeling diffuse and confused, and it's no less capable when pressed into service with TV material. This means that the fundamentals of the Katch G2 are largely the same as they were in the original. The DALI is a slim flattened oval that contains a 21mm soft dome tweeter and an 89mm mid bass driver that has been designed to offer as long a throw as possible. This in turn is augmented by a passive radiator to give the DALI as much radiating area as possible. Each driver gets its own 25 watt Class D amp to drive it which, both in the original Katch and here too, seems to be more than sufficient. Bass is always adequate and a lot more defined than with the Bose although the two preset EQ settings have lost the speaker one star, an option for a flat response would have been ideal, some music just didn’t work with either setting and so I had to mess around with EQ on phone.

The Cleer Scene, on the other hand, made the table where I was testing reverberate song after song as its 20W dual 48mm neodymium drivers and passive radiators pushed sound waves through the wood. I wasn’t testing for it, but it became clear that the Scene was shaking some molecules that the Katch G2 wasn’t connecting with. The Scene does not include a separate of tweets and woofers. DALI, Danish Audiophile Loudspeaker Industries, was created in 1983 to meet the demands of Scandinavia's leading audio retail chain's customers, who were asking for loudspeakers that existing brands couldn't offer. DALI loudspeakers would offer outstanding performance and natural sound at competitive prices. By using two DALI KATCH G2 units, it is possible to form a wireless dedicated left/right stereo pair using Bluetooth between the units and as the source input. The connection uses one DALI KATCH G2 as the primary and the other DALI KATCH G2 as a secondary unit. The true wireless stereo mode has several advantages: Besides adding true stereo imaging, the extra drivers working together will deliver a significantly higher undistorted sound pressure and even improve the bass quality and extension. Perfect for when the party spreads from the living room to the kitchen! No, the Echo Dot isn't a traditional Bluetooth speaker in the sense of what we traditionally deem to be a Bluetooth speaker here at What Hi-Fi?. It's not portable, for one thing, as it requires a plugged-in connection to the wall to work, and it relies on wi-fi to function as an AI-boosted virtual assistant. You can (and will), however, utilise Bluetooth to connect your iPhone to the Echo Dot, especially if you want to play music stored locally, qualifying it as a Bluetooth speaker on more than a mere technicality. While this will depend on the kit you are using and your wi-fi limitations at home, transmitting audio over wi-fi rather than Bluetooth comes with certain benefits: wi-fi doesn't have as limited a signal range as Bluetooth, generally facilitates better sound quality and is capable of transmitting higher-quality audio (Bluetooth is not widely capable of transmitting CD-quality or above music).Great sound, clear bass, a little lost outdoors I bought this to replace an old Bose sound link mini. The sound definitely has more “depth” to it, I would guess this is mainly due to the speakers facing both directions. This is great in indoor settings although the sound becomes a little lost when used outdoors. The Katch oozes a sort of continental class, finished to the highest quality and with a luxurious aesthetic that really can rival some of the best dedicated domestic speakers in the style stakes. When we took our Katch G2 home for some hands-on pics, we found it to be akin to a great model or a timeless beauty of the age; stunning from every angle. Over the past few years, we’ve seen (and heard) everything from giant room-filling Bluetooth speakers to dinky travel options pass through our listening rooms, and many have impressed by offering great value for money, lengthy battery life, waterproofing and even engaging, capable audio quality. Of course, there are plenty of Bluetooth speakers out there that haven't cut the mustard, which is why our team of reviewers have created this handy guide detailing only the best Bluetooth speakers that are worth considering. All products are judged on a performance-per-pound basis and, as part of the process, put up against the current class leader(s) at that price point to see how they compare and to help us settle on a star rating.

Sound, of course, should play a huge part in your decision, because there's absolutely no guarantee that two models of a similar price will end up sounding the same in terms of quality, audio presentation and general timbre. Some Bluetooth speakers will be peppy and exciting, while others will prioritise pulsating bass to get the party started. Audio is really strong, too: bigger, punchier and louder than you’d expect from such a small box. Play Juiceby Lizzo and the Micro 2 does justice to the song’s upbeat tempo with the singer's vocals vibrantly portrayed. Midrange in particular is dealt with in a much more appealing manner than anything else we’ve seen at this price. If you want more from the midrange and less from the treble, you can now tweak it thanks to a new EQ feature in the app, which adds significant value. For a nominal price hike over the launch price of the Flip 5, there’s certainly more detail here, too. What is actually the best sounding speaker though? You don't actually seem to compare them to each other? Such as the Dali Katch to say the UE Megablast, Audio Pro C3 etc. Ignoring hardwired speakers and price.

The design is a bit odd—the unique, narrow build makes it look like it's supposed to sit flat and fire audio upward, but that's not the case. Instead, the stylish speaker stands upright on four rubber feet. Pairing a Bluetooth speaker and Bluetooth device is easy: you simply put the speaker in 'pairing mode' (usually by pressing a button), go into a device's Bluetooth settings and 'scan' for available speakers and then select your speaker. Is JBL a good brand? Better than Bose?
