In all honesty, your Branoe class blew me away. I kept thinking about Fair Isle and Mosaic knitting and other charted needlework while I was learning. I looked for more info on Branoe and found very little but I did discover a rich history of supplemental weft weaving from all different cultures throughout time. So I started experimenting and this book is the result of combining lots of different ideas from various charted needlework. As I started to say, putting it plainly, I would be crazy to pass up an opportunity working on developing dazzling overshot patterns as shown on the picture. They are stunning.

I tend to get fairly obsessive about one craft at a time. I’m passionate about learning as much as possible and experimenting with all the different ways I can express myself with it. Eventually something else strikes my fancy and I abandon the previous one for the latest obsession. Many times I’ve rediscovered my love for a particular craft years after I thought I was done with it. I feel like I have a great toolbox to work with and I love combining ideas from different crafts. I have my first ever Rigid heddle loom (or any loom for that matter) coming in the mail! EEEEEEEKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!! And have absolutely zero experience. But that hasn’t stopped my in the past, I am known for diving off the deep end! When I learned crochet it wasn’t long before I started trying my hand at lace and my second knitting project was a basic sweater….. My crafty friends like to remind me I’m nuts hahahahaha! This technique looks like it’s in-keeping with my usual personality quirk but I also won’t end up drowning!!!!Crazyshot is not the first book you’ve published, but it is your first weaving book. What was the inspiration behind the book?

After reading your interview with Myra I will be taking your class on Branoe very soon. My rigid heddle sat neglected while I spent most of my time on my floor loom. I have been asked many times if I was interested in selling it. I couldn’t do that, my husband bought it for me as a Christmas present, However it still sat naked and neglected. Finally I decided enough was enough. I was done with overthinking (talking myself out of projects), I warped up my RH with some handspun and millspun yarn. I am almost finished weaving a lace top/shawl using your garden path scarf directions. I have no idea if it will work out to what I envisioned, but I’m happy that I took the plunge and started weaving on my little loom again. Myra Wood is a well known fibre artist with an impressive array of artistic skills and talents. In fact, I’m quite amazed by all her achievements in teaching, writing books and creating. She is a huge inspiration! I was a pretty crafty kid. My mom taught me how to sew and crochet and we made tons of Barbie doll and kid’s clothes. I continued crafting through adulthood, adding new crafts every couple of years- more sewing, quilting, embroidery, tapestry and bead weaving, tatting, you name it, always with an emphasis on creative expression. In 2003 I started teaching knitting classes at a local yarn store and within a couple years I began teaching knitting and crochet on the US national circuit for XRX/Stitches, Vogue Knitting, guilds and special events. Along the way, I taught 5 classes for Craftsy and wrote 3 books and published lots of patterns. Up until Covid, I was traveling around the US almost every month. ( I don’t miss the airports but I do miss seeing everybody in person).“ I know you always have something new and exciting in your artistic mind. Can you give us a hint of the New Next Thing?

For knitters and crocheters who are less familiar with weaving, what makes this method so appealing? Can I use my stash yarn?I am really interested in learning what actually can be done with a rigid heddle loom. I love colour and texture, and I really want to learn how to do it with my small loom.

I want to expand my understanding of all that the rigid heddle can do and continue in this art form for the art form and the place of meditation it affords me. With so many projects to learn, I think overshot was one that stood out the most to me. I have only just begun. I felt so much gratification at having the opportunity to weave overshot on a floor loom, that I would certainly wish to know how and to develop overshot skills on the rigid heddle loom. I love the challenge of trying something new, just as much as I love having beautiful things around our home. I dove right into the deep end buying a 20” with a stand while I was there and all the rigid heddle books I could find. Needless to say, my yarn stash was already a bit ridiculous so when I found out I could use the same yarns I was ready to go. My loom arrived a couple weeks later and it’s been a love affair ever since. I now own 4 rigid heddle looms, all of which are usually warped with some experiment or another.“ I love weaving on a variety of looms.
