About this deal

It is recommended thatcondensate pipes are installed with a continuous slope of at least 1% in the flow direction to allow liquid condensate to drain off easily and heat exchangers and pipework to be emptied. This makes the heat exchanger start-up process easier and reduces the danger of corrosion. I bought the rubber pipe insulation and ran the tubing through that. I duct taped wherever there was a seam so everything was tight. I buried this the best I could in the blown in insulation and for extra measure, covered the tubing with roll insulation. (Bought one roll and sliced in the middle.) I drilled a hole in the laundry room ceiling, ran the tubing down and in to the drain. Pump works great and has plenty of oomph.

For the time being, I have just put a bulb right at the bottom & MOST of the time this works, but it has frozen a couple of times each year the last 2 years. I have found that blowing the water out of the a/c portion of the trap allows a small amount of warmer air to come out the drain when the unit runs & this also is a help. It, therefore, makes sense to break things down so that you can build your knowledge from the ground up. Secondly (or alternatively), see if you can have the condensate pipe run into a waste pipe and drain so that the end is not exposed outside. As the condensate is slightly acidic, you can only run the pipe into plastic pipework; if you have metal pipes, these can corrode with the waste. Again, this is filled with limestone chippings to neutralise the condensate water. Advice from an experienced engineer Condensing boilers are able to extract excess heat produced from waste gases. In doing so, they’re lot more efficient because the heat that would otherwise be lost due to waste is repurposed and used to heat your home.
