About this deal

The following peppers may no longer be on the list of the hottest peppers in the world, but once they were and are still considered very hot in their own right. Trinidad Scorpion CARDI Yellow - 850,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU)

In 2022, another superhot chili pepper appeared on the scene, also developed by Ed Currie, this one called the Apollo Pepper, a cross between Pepper X and the Carolina Reaper, used to make The Last Dab: Apollo hot sauce. It is said to reach 3,000,000 SHU, also hotter than the Carolina Reaper, though official tests remain to be seen. List Notes I had the lovely opportunity to try a bite of a 7 pot brain strain pepper at the annual Chilifest in Sunderland, MA. They had a table full of superhot peppers for sale, and tiny samples for daring guests to taste. 7 pot brain strain peppers. This is by no means the hottest pepper in the world. However, it is the hottest of the habanero-type varieties. This is the baseline, a point of reference to compare to the much hotter peppers that exist. For relatively short-term storage, about two or three weeks, they can simply be stored fresh in a cool, dry place like the fridge. Freezing the peppers can make them last much longer and will ultimately not affect their heat or flavor too much, making it a great choice for long-term storage. If you would like a more diverse list of some of the hottest peppers (and seeds) that are out there, see here. Carolina Reaper plants should receive about two inches of water per week, spread throughout multiple days. Ensure that the soil is not drying out or retaining a lot of water. Spreading the two inches throughout the week will help keep a healthy environment for plant growth. Since the world of crossbreeding is so active, new superhot peppers are invented every day. From heavyweights like Ed Currie, to passionate hobbyists, these new breeds come from all around the world. Here are a few impressively spicy peppers with unconfirmed heat levels: Jay’s Peach Ghost Scorpion: 1,000,000+ SHUs (Unconfirmed) This is an extremely hot variety developed by a grower named Ed Currie. It is also called HP22B pepper. As of 2013 it is over 7 generations old. Ed created this chili pepper plant variety by crossing a Pakistani Naga with a Red Habanero type from St Vincents Island in the West Indies. Trinidad Moruga Scorpion - 2,009,231 Scoville Heat Units (SHU).

Carolina Reapers can be grown in containers, although they need a large amount of space. A 3-gallon container is generally the minimum size recommended, but if it is possible for you to use a larger container size, a 5-gallon container is going to make the plant’s growth much easier. At the time, the ghost pepper seemed absurdly spicy. 2-3x hotter than a typical habanero seemed out of this world. The internet exploded with “ghost pepper challenge” videos. Anyone crazy enough to try it would pay good money for seeds or whole peppers. Personally speaking, I enjoy some heat with a medium amount of burn and sting in it. I like to feel it and gasp from its heat but not so much that I want more heat, more pain and not be able to taste my food. Carolina Reaper plants take between 90-100 days to fruit with pepper pods. With that in mind, as well as their need for warm temperatures, you should align the planting so that the peppers are ready to go by the end of summer at the latest.I’m sure you’ll agree with me that the hottest peppers are always changing. And, it’s pretty exciting to have new chile varieties to eat and grow during the season. You can get seeds for the Red Savina here. Even this pepper, the least spicy pepper on this list, is far too spicy for most to handle. A prolific producing plant could leave you with 100s of Red Savina habaneros at the end of a single growing season, so be sure you have a plan for what to do with your peppers!
