About this deal

MiWadi takes its name from Mineral Water Distributors, a company that was originally formed in 1927 in Nassau Place in Dublin, and produced MiWadi, C&C and Club products. Britvic’s Tomato Juice of 1938 was followed by Pineapple, Grapefruit and finally Orange Juice. Since then, the brand has continued to evolve and the range has grown, with Britvic Tonic, Ginger Ale and Bitter Lemon introduced throughout the 1950s. In the 1980s, Aqua Libra pioneered the first generation of health and wellbeing drinks. The world has changed a lot since then, but the need for simplicity and great tasting drinks has not. It first launched in 1929 as a caramel-coloured lemon-lime soda, which he positioned as a drink with a 'flavour wallop'. Despite launching at the start of the Great Depression and competing against 600 other lemon-lime soft drinks already in the marketplace, the new brand sold well and by the late 1940s had become the third best-selling soft drink in the world. The Lipton brand has been providing high quality tea to over 150 countries since 1880. The story of Lipton Ice Tea begins with Sir Thomas Lipton, born in Glasgow in 1848. Sir Thomas was a passionate explorer who travelled to exotic places around the globe. He was not one to follow normal conventions, and in 1862 he sailed to New York in search of new opportunities. He spent five years travelling all over the country working in a number of jobs, which helped him develop a head for business.

London Essence distils botanicals for the purest flavour, creating contemporary drinks with a nostalgic twist, which pair perfectly with premium spirits. Club was the first brand to produce Ginger Ale and Club Soda. In 1769 A&R Thwaites introduced the world to Soda Water and in 1852 Dr Thomas Cantrell of Belfast and Sir Henry Cochrane combined to open their business in Belfast and Dublin and became synonymous with the invention of Club Ginger Ale. In 1890, he bought a Sri Lankan tea garden and began blending his own tea, making the drink more affordable for ordinary people. While his shops made him a millionaire, his tea business made him a multimillionaire leading to a knighthood in 1898. Robinson's Barley Water was officially served at the All England Lawn Tennis Championships in Wimbledon for the first time in 1935 where the gentlemen's singles was won by Great Britain's Fred Perry. In 1969 Gatorade became the official drink of the American National Football League (NBA), a title it holds to this day.

Famous for its refreshing taste and its real fruit tang, Tango was acquired by Britvic in 1987. The brand gained attention in the UK in the late 1980s and 1990s for disrupting soft drinks marketing with its creative ‘You know when you've been Tango’d’ advertising campaign which was seen to completely challenge the norms of the soft drinks market at the time. The campaign propelled the brand to success and became one of the most well-known TV adverts of all time.

Britvic 55 was added to the portfolio in 1978 as a sparkling fruit juice drink, and Britvic 100 launched in 2005 as a range of premium 100% fruit juices. Today, the Britvic Juices & Mixers range continues to be enjoyed in pubs, bars and foodservice outlets across Britain. Britvic has been making and selling Pepsi in Great Britain since 1987 and in Ireland since 2007. Originally known as Brad's Drink, Pepsi was first created in 1893 by a pharmacist in the US called Caleb D Bradham who began experimenting with combinations of spices, juice and syrups on a typical hot and humid day in North Carolina. Pepsi-Cola was named in 1898 after the root of the word dyspepsia and the kola nuts used in the recipe. The original recipe also included sugar and vanilla as Bradham sought to create a drink that was appealing, and would aid digestion and boost energy. There are many theories as to where the 7UP takes its name from. Some say this is a reference to the number of ingredients in its original recipe, with UP referring to the lift provided by the lithium citrate in the original drink. Others have claimed this could be a result of 7UP originally being bottled in seven-ounce bottles, while competitor soft drinks were bottled in six-ounce bottles. Our unique blend of two sugars provides a balanced flavour and reduces crystallisation, which results in less waste and mess. Today, Gatorade is available widely in major retailers and is the sports drink chosen by more professional athletes than any other brand, including football teams such as Arsenal, Barcelona and Liverpool FC, the NFL and the NBA to name a few. In January 2015, Ballygowan became the official soft drinks partner of Dublin GAA. Under the partnership, Ballygowan supports Dublin hurling and football teams across all age groups. In 2016 Fruit Shoot was given a refreshing new recipe when we added multivitamins. Just another example of doing good and tasting great.

The Belfast Morning News claimed in 1885 that what Guinness was to porter, and Bass was to pale ale, Cantrell & Cochrane was to ginger ale, especially in America.
