About this deal

You’ll get up close and personal with the skin as we zoom in and discuss basic anatomy and structure, with an emphasis on the many functions of the skin, from vitamin D synthesis to wound healing and immunity. You’ll also gain insight on the skin’s microbiome and discover how skin care products are absorbed into the skin, and even deeper! I didn’t realize how much more there was to learn about natural skin care and whole body wellness until I enrolled in The Herbal Academy’s Botanical Skin Care Course. This online course offered so much more than I expected. I can honestly say that I learned way more than I’d expected. As it was thoughtfully and well presented, I found myself wanting to learn even more after I completed the course. The Botanical Skin Care Course not only offered in depth information on the natural ingredients used in skin care, it also taught me the biology behind our skin and how its makeup relates to herbal skin care. Why I Love (& Recommend) The Botanical Skin Care Course

So why am I sharing this recipe? I’m sharing it because there are some people who really do have favorable experiences with soap as shampoo. When the Herbal Academy sent me their Botanical Skincare Recipe Book, I naturally looked through the soap recipes at the end and the shampoo bar caught my eye. There were notable facts about the history of cosmetics and skin care that were especially intriguing and found throughout the course lessons. A wonderful addition to many homemade skin care recipes, the natural emollient properties of mango butter make it a perfect fit for creams and lotions. Its mild scent works beautifully in this recipe as it allows the floral aromas to shine through. Many of these herbs may be familiar if you’ve dabbled in home remedies or natural body care products before (such as making calendula salve), but some will likely be new, and that is where it gets really fun and interesting! What I loved about the bookStir hydrosol and aloe gel together in another bowl. If using a natural preservative that needs to be added to the water phase, add now and stir well; otherwise, wait until after cream has emulsified. Once it has cooled down to room temp, add the essential oils and stir well. Adding a natural preservative at this stage will keep your shaving cream safer to use and longer-lasting. I used Leucidal Liquid SF. It’s important to follow the directions on the natural preservative you choose to make sure you add the right amount. I measured my liquid by weight (about 16 oz), then determined 2-4% by weight (0.3 - 0.6 oz) and added that amount of Leucidal Liquid to my bowl and mixed well. Rinse and dry the wild mallow leaves until they are crisp. Place them in a pint-sized sterilized glass jar and add the dried plantain. Cover with almond oil and let infuse in a dark place at room temperature for 2-4 weeks OR speed up infusion by placing the sealed oil-filled jar into a saucepan full of warm water set on low for several hours. Once the oil is infused, strain it well, pressing on the plant material to release as much infused goodness as possible. Measure 1 cup of infused oil for this recipe.

Place a square piece of natural waxed paper on top of the jar, then seal jar with a lid (this protects oil from any chemical coating that may be on the lid).Take a trip down memory lane with a fascinating timeline of the history of skin care, starting 100,000 years ago! After that, you’ll have an opportunity to take a look at your own skin and begin to get an idea of your own personal skin profile. I wanted to find a way to reduce the amount of toxins and plastic bottles on a daily basis via personal care products. In addition to the original recipe instructions, I’ve left a few suggestions that I think will help you. One comment pertains to the amount of liquid used to make the lye solution (called the lye water). The other is that I don’t recommend that you insulate the soap after you pour it into molds. More on that below.Thought to bring balance and harmony to the skin, rose geranium hydrosol is suitable for all skin types. The sweet aroma of this floral water supports an uplifted mood and contributes to the overall fragrance of this facial cream. Every 1-3 days, roll the jar in your hands to help mix the contents and release the herb ’s constituents into the oil. Turning blender on a low-medium setting or using an immersion blender in a bowl, slowly add hydrosol mixture to oil mixture while blending. Mixture will begin to emulsify and become creamy. Avoid overmixing. Cream will set up a bit more as it cools. Everything from the Herbal Academy of New England is presented beautifully and the content is always thorough and in-depth.
