About this deal

These Pentax US binoculars weigh just 194 grams and measure 13 x 11.6 x 5.5cm, making them incredibly lightweight. Despite this, they still boast high-quality, fully multi-coated optics. These are the lightest binoculars in the Pentax range, helped no doubt by using plastic instead of a metal chassis, and there is no rubber protective armor. Instead, there are two small thumb rests that help with grip. That being said, for daytime use a lens size with a diameter of 21 to 25mm is arguably ideal. You’ll probably also notice the term ‘roof prism’ mentioned as part of the specification of the smaller binoculars we’re showcasing here.

You don't have a big budget:They are on the more expensive end of the market, so only those with bigger budgets would buy them. Broadly speaking, the smaller the device is, the more it’s suitable for ramblers or sightseers, rather than birders though as some of the featured examples attest, that isn’t always the case. The binocular is nitrogen-filled, leaving us wondering how the Aculon T02 8x21 would fare later on during our observations, but, in the meantime — from the dryness of the kitchen — we held the Aculon T02 8x21 out under slight drizzle to see how the build held up under damp conditions. It’s important to note that the Aculon T02 8x21 will not be able to survive under massive downpours. Nikon has warned that the binocular is not waterproof in the supplied manual. They also do not indicate the weight of binoculars, as more powerful magnification and larger objective lenses will increase the overall weight. This may determine whether the binoculars can be used handheld or using a tripod (or with a monopod). A compact pair of binoculars normally means a modest magnification married to an equally modest objective lens size, yet here we get a practical and efficient 8x magnification wedded to a relatively generous 32mm. For the low price point, we were pleasantly surprised by the image quality when we put them to the test in our Occer 12x25 Compact Binoculars review. They produced a clear and bright image with less chromatic aberration than we've seen on some of their more expensive competitors. I bought these to replace aged Nikons, and they are so much better. Very compact and easy to use with much better light gathering than I could have expected.

You wear glasses:The eye relief on these binos isn't the best, so if you wear glasses, there are better options. They are water-resistant, and they are nitrogen gas purged to prevent fogging. They come with a generous 10-year warranty for added protection, which is a testament to how long these binos should last if they are well looked after. The article below was written by Derek Sergeant and takes the perspective of a newcomer learning about the importance and meaning of the numbers on a binocular: The compact size also makes this option suited to watching sports, going hiking, traveling, and other common pursuits. Naturally, we get fully multi-coated optics with Bak-4 prisms to improve light transmission, plus a degree of waterproofing; and all at an affordable price for those of us seeking a compact pair for everyday use. A large, ridged central focus knob and dioptric adjustment aid ease of use and rapidity of focusing. Binoculars: what we look forWhile the small aperture of 25mm means that they can't gather enough light for more detailed skywatching, the optics will still perform well for the casual observer. In our Nikon Travelite EX 8x25 review we were able to get pleasing views of the lunar craters, as well as stars in the constellations of Taurus and Orion. Very good binoculars for the price and sufficient for my needs when walking the dogs. My husband is a true twitcher and says that it there is no comparison to his Leica Trinovid pair which he paid four times as much for. It is definitely true that you get what you pay for! Compared to other models on this list, the Celestron UpClose G2 doesn't have the most advanced specs. It has partially multi-coated lenses (not fully coated) and BK-7 glass roof prisms (instead of the preferred BaK-4 glass). However, they are reasonably priced and include a limited lifetime guarantee for added peace of mind. Sometimes the comfort of a trusted, known brand that offers a warranty is worth paying that little bit extra for. That said, you will see a couple of models in this guide that are lesser known but that we've reviewed and would recommend as good-value-for-money. How we test the best compact binoculars Both my wife and I find these binoculars absolutely ideal for our use. – bird watching and other wildlife investigation.

The optical system offered small, yet beautiful, views of star fields, planets and the moon. (Image credit: Gemma Lavender) The large focus wheel is exceptional, and the handling is surprisingly impressive, requiring only two rotations to move through the entire focus range. The 6-degree field of view is adequate, although not as good as some of the UD's serious rivals. With Multi-coated optics and a waterproof and fogproof design these compact binoculars from Bushnell feature BaK-4 glass and multi-coated optics. Read more below
