About this deal

We grow in Air-pots at the nursery and can supply a range of sizes up to 100L. If you would like a larger size, please do get in touch. As you can see, the bushiness of the plant increases with the pot size and although the ones in larger pots are more expensive you don't need as many of them to fill the space (so sometimes plants in big pots work out cheaper than a higher quantity of plants in small pots), plus you also have the benefit of a fairly bushy immediate effect Airpot containers come in a huge range of sizes, so we can provide really large trees for sale or you can grow a tree in a larger pot at home. Litres are difficult to approximate without prior knowledge. Below, you can see our infographic of the relative size of different litre plant pots.

Find the rows along one edge without any holes – this is the top of the pot and forms a hole-less rim to prevent water running off. They’re tough, made from recycled material (bottle tops and the like) and are fully recyclable. At the time of planting out or potting on, remove the green screw(s) and uncurl the pot to release the rootball. Re-make the pot; wash and reuse afterwards for more plants. I am mightily impressed with all my dealings with you. The air pot in which the trees came was the best...the trees are simply stunning.Use the green screw(s) to hold the pot together. Place a few rows in from the top and bottom of the point, ensureing they hold the bits of plastic that overlap together. All plant dimensions are measured from the top of the pot or root ball ie 40/60cm plants will be between 40cm and 60cm above ground when planted. Thus a tree may start out in the ground, before being transferred to a 9L and then a 15L, and so on. A nursery may start out with 300 trees and sell 150 bare root, 100 9Ls and 50 15Ls. Although, not all nurseries do this. Thus a tree may remain in a pot it was initially transferred to. Air-pots are designed to promote a strong radial and fibrous root system and actively enhances plant growth. The design of an Air-Pot container results in plant roots being air-pruned once they reach the outside of the container, this in turn stimulates the production of more new roots which grow outwards from the plant and keeps the root system healthy and and actively growing. Once the Air-pot is removed all the roots are growing radially from the plant, there should not be any roots wrapped around the inside of the pot as in a conventional container and you do not need to tease out any of the roots. Because there are always new radial roots growing in the rootball, once you plant your new tree into the ground these roots will penetrate the surrounding soil more rapidly and the tree will establish itself much better than a similar sized tree grown in a traditional pot. So all in all this is a win-win for you the gardener. The long edges form the top and bottom rims of the pot. The diagonal cut edges overlap to form a seal – a bit like unfirling a cardboard loo roll tube. You could practice joining the diagonal edges together now.

Nurseries sell plants at different stages of growth. Most are grown in the ground and then transferred into a pot. Thus a 1 year old tree may be transferred into a 9L pot, a 3 year old tree into a 18L pot. Others are transferred from pot to pot, from a 3L to a 9L for example. As young trees are transferred to these larger pots after the bare root season ends in spring, buying in Autumn is recommended, when the tree has adapted to the pot and had more time to grow. A downside of this is that some varieties may have sold out by this point, so for lauded trees buy early! Different nurseries sell their plants at different stages of growth and use different size pots. This increases the number of pot sizes on the market. This pot/planter should have a drainage hole to prevent the bottom sitting in water, and should be sat on a stable solid surface e.g. a flagstone, to prevent it tipping over or prospecting roots penetrating into the ground.

Pot sizes vary a great deal and some species have to be grown in pots that are particularly deep or particularly wide so measurements aren't standard, but we've shown below the dimensions of the pots we use most frequentlyTrees are available in a large number of pot sizes in this range - 15, 18, 25, 30, 45, 50 and so on - with larger pots containing older, more mature trees. The greater the maturity, the greater the instant impact. Please leave an air gap between the two pot walls of approximately 5cm. Do not fill the gap between the decorative pot and the Air-pot with soil. Pot on your Eucalptus into a bigger Air-pot if you want to grow it in a pot for a short time before planting out in the ground. Most plant pot sizes are measured in litres, which is a measure of volume, calculated from a shape’s cubic centimetres. A cylinder’s cubic centimetres is calculated from the equation πr 2h. Thus to calculate you plant pots literage, you need to measure your pot’s height and radius with a ruler. If your plant pot isn’t an exact cylinder, but a flat-topped cone, it is best to approximate calculating a cylinder. Do not plant a Eucalyptus in the ground that has been grown in a traditional smooth-walled pot or grow-bag as the roots will not be stable.

Even if it’s only been in that enclosed pot for a few weeks, it’s too late and the damage to the root system may already be done. We advise that a round pot or grow-bag cultivated Eucalyptus is never planted out in the ground to prevent it becoming a liability. Eucalyptus with badly trained roots can die in the cold or fall over in high winds. No. You don’t want a larger pot of soil, but a healthy tree with a well established root system and lots of growth. Thus, you should look at the height on arrival and the age of a tree. For larger tree sizes, looking at a tree trunk’s girth is a good measurement of value.Too complicated? Below you can see the measurements of various cylindrical pots that were visualised in the above infographic. In our calculations we have presumed the radius is two/thirds of the height. Air Pots are widely used by a variety of vegetable growers, tree nurseries and other well respected horticultural establishments across the globe. This is the first size standards are available at. Standards have a portion of the trunk cleared of stems for ornamental value.
