About this deal

Accumulated cyclone energy (ACE) is used by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and other agencies to express the activity of individual tropical cyclones that are above tropical storm strength and entire tropical cyclone seasons. [29] It is calculated by taking the squares of the estimated maximum sustained velocity of every active tropical storm (wind speed 35 knots or higher) at six-hour intervals. [29] The numbers are usually divided by 10,000 to make them more manageable. The unit of ACE is 10 4 kn 2, and for use as an index the unit is assumed. [29] As well as being squared for ACE, wind speed can also be cubed, which is referred to as the Power Dissipation Index (PDI). [30] Disaster Management Japan, (2019). As well as being functional, the scales are also designed for practicality. Cleverly, it saves on battery power by automatically shutting down if you leave it alone for more than 60 seconds, and also features low battery and overload indicators.

The list of names consists of entries from 14 southeast and east Asian nations and regions and the United States who have territories directly affected by typhoons. The submitted names are arranged into a list, the names on the list will be used from up to down, from left to right. When all names on the list are used, it will start again from the left-top corner. When a typhoon causes damage in a region, the affected region can request for retiring the name in the next session of the ESCAP/WMO Typhoon Committee. A new name will be decided by the region whose name was retired. JBA Risk Management has nationwide return period flood maps and a flood model for Japan at 30m resolution. We have also produced an updated flood footprint for the typhoon, estimating extents and depths from river flooding. South China Morning Post (2019).
