About this deal

I’m not going to go in to detail about the recording options in this post as I want to focus on comparing the two devices for monitoring use only. I will be posting more about recording with the Ninja V in the future. Tally Lights The 5-inch touch screen dominates the front. It's a bright panel, 1000 nits at maximum, which improves viewing quality under bright light. It features a crisp 1080p resolution, and can be set to display waveforms, zebras, and focus peaking, as well as to apply a LUT preview when capturing with a Log profile. For more information on the new features, improvements and known limitations, refer to the release notes for AtomOS 10.84.00. If files have been recovered, Proxy files will not be uploaded and highlighted with a red exclamation mark icon. The recovered files must be manually uploaded to the Cloud. The Ninja V doesn’t handle LUT’s in the same way. When applied a LUT still shows how the image will be effected but it also effects the exposure tools including the waveforms, scopes and the false colour display. This means that by using a lut you can no longer trust the exposure tools on the Ninja V.

The advanced long-range RF system is completely wireless, offering incredible accuracy and stability. Effortlessly synchronise your recordings with multiple camera and sound sources. The Ninja does some processing and enables a greater range of codecs, but that isn’t going to greatly improve the video quality or give you huge amounts of additional scope when it comes to grading. However, it does record at 4:2:2 rather than 4:2:0, so there may be a marginal improvement in the colour data, although I can’t see too much of a difference. The unique AtomHDR engine processes the incoming Log/RAW/HDR signals from your camera or device and displays in all its HDR glory on the Ninja V screen. There are matching profiles for a plethora of cameras, with more added as they emerge. Prefer to work is Rec.709? The Ninja V has you covered with the ability to load custom LUTs to match your workflow.

Most mirrorless cameras record internally using H.264 or H.265 compression. The Ninja V uses higher-quality codecs—your choice of DNxHD or ProRes, with various levels of compression available. With DNxHD, you have the ability to adjust the level of compression; with ProRes you can choose between the LT, HQ, and 422 formats. Note: If you've previously added your Ninja V to your account for Streaming, you don't need to add or re-pair it again. Go live via ATOMOS Stream By taking advantage of the long-range RF transmission patented by Timecode Systems, AtomX SYNC can be used alone or in combination with AtomX SYNC, UltraSync ONE and UltraSync BLUE to synchronise apps and hardware devices.

Of course, you may already own all some of this kit, but if you don’t then your total investment could effectively be doubling the price of the Ninja V itself, if you go for high-quality and large-size SSD drives. To enable this functionality users need to upgrade their Ninja V or Ninja V+ with the latest firmware 10.72. The new AtomRemote App is available for free for all customers and is available via the Apple App Store. I’ve been using the AndyCine Lunchbox caddies which take M-Sata drives removed from 1TB Samsung T5 Drives. It’s quite scary taking a perfectly good T5 drive apart but I like this more compact solution and so far it has been working reliably. In terms of capture, virtually any HDMI or SDI source is supported, including cameras from Nikon, Fujifilm, Canon, Panasonic, Sony, Z-Cam, Olympus, RED and ARRI. RAW Over HDMI Every detail, meticulously preserved
