Include relevant drama school credits if you’re newly graduated. Even though the role might not be your ideal casting, it may remind us of something about you. You can remove these credits as your CV builds…or when you’re 45! With dozens of different roles being taken on in the world of theatre, from performers and directors to technicians and artists, there is a place for everyone. At Spotlight Theatre we take the time to help people find their talent and nurture it. Whether they want to sing from the rooftops or design the rooftops themselves, each part is as vital as the next. We want you to have fun whilst learning important skills that can be applied to all aspects of life as well as the performing arts.
Why not try and grab a show or a film if you have a free afternoon? Have a look for workshops or acting classes which push you out of your comfort zone and help you learn a new skill. The Actors Guild always have regular workshops here at SpotlightIf you need a spotlight for emergency use, setting up camp at night, or clanging around in your basement, these can handle it all.

Or make reading a delight with some task lighting behind your favourite armchair or sofa. Also please, please call out all the things you are highly skilled at. Don’t be embarrassed! The right spot to place a floor lamp depends on the type of lamp you have and your lighting needs. If the lamp is designed for directional task lighting, you should consider having it above or behind a sofa, armchair or table. This way, the lamp doesn’t get in your way and provides the light you need. If you can, try to be off-book for a casting unless you’re told otherwise. If you fluff a line just carry on – the director or casting director will call cut if they need to. It’s always a good idea to get a few opinions on new headshots so make sure to consult with your agent, friends or family before uploading to your profile. The photo that you like the most might not be the most suitable headshot for your profile – that is why getting a variety of opinions can be really helpful! It’s easy for you to add photos to your Spotlight profile. The photo management system can be used on all devices and allows you to upload on the go. Though we do recommend editing your profile on your laptop instead of your phone for ease. When looking to buy downlights or spotlights, it's essential to consider factors like the type of lighting effect you want to achieve, the room's size and purpose, and energy efficiency. LED spotlights are a popular choice due to their long lifespan, energy-saving properties, and versatility of colour temperature and beam angles. An LED spot light bar does not emit any heat, can operate on low voltages, and can handle being switched on and off without shortening their lifespan.Casting directors tell us they only like to see 4-5 images of various expressions so less is definitely more. Photos/Headshots Lumens indicate how much light streams through an area per second. Generally speaking, the higher the lumen output, the more light produced. A spotlight’s lumen output indicates its brightness power, but note that most lights begin to dim as the battery dies and as you use it longer. The higher the lumen output, the faster the battery drains, so if you’re in an emergency situation, make sure to use the dimmer mode or save your spotlight for when you really need it. How We Selected Casting directors can’t always watch a whole showreel so make sure to open strong. Re-editing your showreel can make it feel completely new and a simple edit can change everything. Make sure your strongest scene is at the beginning of the showreel. Don’t start with montages or still photographs, casting directors want to see you act. Self-tapes Be truthful when listing accents and languages. When casting directors call you into a room they need to have confidence that you can do them (often at short notice) so try to only publish those you can do well and naturally. You can also add some audio to your profile to demonstrate the accents you can do. The content of what you are reading doesn’t matter, casting directors just want to hear that you can do a flawless accent.
You can add your pronouns to your profile. To do so go to ‘edit basic details’ at the top of your profile, scroll down and you will see a box saying ‘further information’ next to ‘How would you like to be found on Spotlight?’ , this is a free text box where you can display your pronouns. Tell us where you trained and when you graduated. Most of us have been to your showcases and, whilst we may not immediately remember your name, this might help to jog our memory. Also the simple truth is that, as a huge generalisation, good training creates good graduates so it’s an important piece of information for us to be reminded of. Include the year. If you don’t it makes us suspicious that you’re trying to hide a long period of unemployment.
