About this deal

Osprey has a great reputation, and a big reason for that is their Almighty Guarantee. This is their term for a lifetime warranty.

The size, durability and usability of the Farpoint 40 makes it a pleasure to travel with and when you throw in The Almighty Guarantee you have a bag that will keep on travelling as long as you do! As we’ve already mentioned, at 54cm x 35cm x 23cm the Osprey Farpoint 40 fits within the carry on luggage specifications for most airlines. This is great if you don’t trust airlines with your stuff, or if you just don’t want to mess about at the luggage carousel after every flight. While I am a bit paranoid the shoulder strap is going to get caught in something (I usually wind it around the handle before stowing it), that fear has so far been unfounded. I can’t bring myself to say this is a bad point because it is completelyoptional and there seem to be a few people out there who actually like it.Before we get into the nitty-gritty here of this Osprey Farpoint 40 review, let’s clear one thing up. The Osprey Farpoint and Fairview are the same bag, where they differ is in the layout and size of the straps. An In-Depth Review Of The Osprey Fairview 40 The Good Bits of the Osprey Fairview 40 Suitcase-Style Opening On the durability and convenience front, the Fairview continues to shine. I’ve used it consistently and it’s yet to show any wear, living up to my expectations of the brand. Even though I could drone on about how much I love my Fairview for hours, don’t just take my word for it. Here is what some of the lovely ladies in the South East Asia Facebook Community had to say about theirs…

The Fairview also has sternum straps sliding along a rail on the shoulder straps so you can set them at the right height. They grip tightly to the rails, so it takes a little effort to move them. We don’t mind, though, since they stay in the right place and don’t require readjustment. The ad shows someone storing their sunglasses here, and it’s definitely the perfect size for this, but I wouldn’t recommend this. That’s an easy way to crush your sunglasses. However, if you try to cover a significant distance in a hot climate, it does tend to get you pretty sweaty. They also offer something they like to call the Almighty Guarantee. It’s a lifetime guarantee for all of their products, including the Osprey Fairview 40 line. Carry on dimensions tend to vary between countries and airlines, but bags under 22 inches are usually the safest options. Are you still with me? Good. I’m at the point in this Osprey Fairview review where I’ll discuss money. This bag’s compliant with global carry-on luggage standards. The bag is less than 22 inches, making it a safe choice for your carry-on.

The padded straps are comfortable and the supportive internal frame makes the bag pleasant to wear. There is a sternum strap that can be adjusted to sit higher or lower. This is a huge plus for people with larger chests. Both the Osprey Farpoint and Fairview 40 are fantastic. They come in multiple sizes – try them on and make sure you get the right one for you.” – Gemma I wanted to keep all the features I loved in my old Osprey Waypoint, but in a size that I could carry on budget airlines as well as small puddle jumpers in other countries without incurring a fee.A great option for digital nomads. Dedicated laptop and tablet sleeves make digital nomad life a lot easier. When I asked my wife if she had anything to contribute to the review, I received this text: “It’s just the right size for two weeks. Boom. Review done.” When I’m walking around town or on a short nature walk, I often store my phone in here while listening to music, so I can stroll around hands-free. Internal Front Flap Zippered Mesh Compartment Something to note about all these straps: none but the front compression straps include keepers, so you’ll potentially have a lot of excess dangling if you need to cinch things up tightly. Not a deal breaker, just something to note. If that bugs you, look for a strap management system, like VELCRO Brand Cable Ties. Osprey Fairview 40 | Fabric unrolls to hide away the straps.

The hip strap is also hiking grade. And even though this isn’t the best hiking bag, it does provide excellent hip support. That makes it a great choice for walking around cities and general traveling. Sternum Strap with a Rescue Whistle I’m not sure who thought “ooh olive green and turquoise, how pretty!” but they were wrong. (Pro tip, when Osprey says grey, it’s typically a very green-grey). Color-wise it’s one of the uglier bags I’ve owned, but the other option is a very bright forest green, which I didn’t like any better. Initially, I thought it would be too large for a long weekend. What I’m really enjoying about the bag, though, is how well it compresses down. Even if I don’t need to fully load it, it still keeps everything organized and doesn’t feel too large. The Osprey Fairview 40 is the sister to Osprey’s best-selling Farpoint 40. Like the Farpoint 40, it’s a welcome addition to the series and it’s great for one-bag travel. But there are some issues to look out for before investing in this as your next travel companion. And this wouldn’t be an exhaustive Osprey Fairview review without talking about the pros and cons.

I haven’t had any trouble with size on this bag in the US, Europe, or the UK, and I’ve yet to find an overhead bin it can’t squeeze inside. It even fit in the tester bins at the airport. It’s also an ideal way to keep the straps safe when storing the bag between trips. I tend to leave mine under the bed but there has been more than one occasion where I have found a cat tangled up in it!
