Aesthetics, combined with the ease of distribution that lather brings are pretty much the only reasons to include it. That and the ‘idea’ that a foam present equates to ‘clean’. What do we think about Sulfates? Balmonds offer a natural shampoo which is free of perfume, soap and SLS’s. It’s light formula doubles up as a body wash and is gentle enough to be used on babies from just 6 weeks. It’s great as it doesn’t contain any of the irritating synthetic nasties those with allergy-prone skin might want to avoid so is our product of choice for my boys weekly post-swim shower. It’s made with herbal extracts and is plant-based with sensitive skin in mind. I love that it’s a multi-purpose wash which means using it in the shower won’t upset the skin on your body as it is so mild and gentle. I love this for my boys as a shampoo and body wash and like to take it to the gym for my post-workout shower product. Kindness to Skin ★★★★★ This product is relatively new to me and over the past month it’s what I’ve been using. I like the consistency of the shampoo and that you don’t need too much to wash your hair (and I have a lot currently with my extensions). Used in conjunction with their conditioner, my hair is left lightweight, clean, and hydrated without stripping my skin/scalp of moisture. What I love is that it visibly reduces the appearance of split ends with the clever Biolipids and Camellia oil (which is rich in fatty acids) which help to smooth the cell membranes on the hair.
It contains Aloe Very which is soothing and hydrating and very mild too. You can use it on children’s hair too which is great because my three-year-old has really wild curls that always need taming after washing. StylingThere’s some benefits to the use of sodium laureth sulfate in our formulation too. Sodium laureth sulfate helps oil and water-based ingredients, which generally don’t mix, to become dispersed. It is perfect for use in haircare because it is a paste and it makes a beautiful light lather, which helps the hands work the product through the hair with ease. Do we need our shampoo to lather? The product doesn’t foam up like regular shampoo brands but it doesn’t need to. A little goes a long way and it coats your hair with a few swishes of your wrist. My hair felt smooth and easy to work with after just a few washes. An allergy friendly hair care range that delivers
Olsson hair care, having been formulated from three years of development between salons, professionals and chemists, is a hair care range designed to offer salon performance without irritation and I’d say I agree! Over the past year I’ve worked my way through their range and now use their Shampoo and Conditioner as well as their leave-in conditioner and sensitive hairspray as part of my daily/weekly hair routine. Perfumes, sulphates, parabens, colours and phthalates are almost always present in shampoos, conditioners and washes, which can all result in irritation and allergic reactions so up until now I’ve sacrificed the state and condition of my hair in a bid to avoid my skin and scalp reacting. The shampoo lathers slightly differently to other shampoos (due to not containing all the normal artificial foaming agents) so whilst it does have a foam-like consistency when rubbed in, it’s recommended not to scrunch up the hair too much as it’s at its most fragile when when wet. Olsson Hair allergy friendly Sensitive Shampoo which is ‘AllergyUK’ approved. I found applying a small 2p sized amount on the ends of my hair left my hair really shiny and manageable and really works nicely after using the shampoo. Shampoo Normal/Dry is a mild and gentle shampoo, designed to deeply cleanse hair for a healthy scalp and luxurious shine. A high-performance formulation yet mild and gentle enough to minimise the risk of an allergic reaction.

As always, remember I will only recommend products that I have used and tried myself so rest assured that the above shampoos are really great products in my view and won’t irritate skin. That said, it is always worth remembering that we all have different skin and different allergies/sensitivities so what works for some, may not for others therefore make sure to do a patch test before you use new products. Firstly, the ability to cleanse the skin and hair by attracting oils like sebum and allowing them to be rinsed away with water are just wonderful. Giving you that super clean feeling. After shampooing, massage a small amount of conditioner into hair and scalp, working through to the ends that are most prone to damage, so it distributes evenly. For ultimate nourishment, leave on for 1-3 minutes. Rinse well. Style as normal.
