About this deal

The Gateron Red and the Gateron browns have the excellent build quality, and the Gateron brand manufactures them.

We’ve tested out hundreds of switches, so we’ll also give you our thoughts on each style of Gateron switch to help you give an idea of how they feel and sound (along with our opinions). Gateron Switches: A Deeper Look The Cherry MX Browns I have also sound scratchier than the Cherry MX Reds, likely due to the tactile bump. This makes them sound less pleasant than the Cherry MX Red to my ears. But this is my subjective opinion, and you may feel otherwise. It’s a minor difference, anyway.

You're in!

Overall, the ink switches are a great way to get a different colored housing and a super smooth keystroke if you’re willing to pay the premium. Gateron Low-Profile Switches COLOR There are four different types of key switches you can choose from. Each has its own use and unique set of characteristics. If you are playing a non-competitive game however, the type of switch you use won’t matter too much. Best suited for typists, MX Clear switches are tactile and have an actuation force of 65cN. These switches have a 2.0 pre-travel and don’t make any noise when pressed. Perfect for those working in an office. MX Grey:

All of the switches in this classification are considered “clones” since they mirror the design of the Cherry MX switch and use the same descriptive names where the colors represent the actuation type and spring force. Outemu switches aren’t too bad for the price, they just tend to rattle a bit when typing. But if you’re trying to save money, you can’t complain too much about the performance of the switch. Gateron low profile switches have a completely different design than a normal switch. Gateron low-profile switches have a different shaped stem and a much short actuation and travel distance. The only switch that differs slightly is the Gateron Clear switch which is totally different from the Cherry MX Clear. Instead of being a heavy tactile, the Gateron Clear is a super-light linear switch. Low Profile Red switches have all of the same distinct features as MX Reds, but with a small form factor. MX Low Profile Reds are linear, with a smooth typing feel and actuation of 45cN. MX Low Profile Speed:The Kalih Speed Copper switches are tactile, yet provide you with a soft typing experience that is completely silent. These switches have an actuation force of only 30g, low trigger height, and a 1.1mm pre-travel, making them perfect for gamers. Kalih Speed Silver: Outemu Brown switches are one of the cheapest switches. If you are looking for a budget keyboard, they will usually have Outemu switches.

I recorded a couple of audio clips to give you an idea of the sound differences. I installed both switches in my Skyloong GK61 and recorded them with an Audio Technica AT2020. First up, the Cherry MX Reds: Optical switches have a different feel than mechanical and for that reason they can feel strange to use. They tend to feel a bit hollow and fake. Gateron is known for their super smooth linear switches, but their tactile Brown switches aren’t too bad either. Along with the type of key switch, there are two other crucial factors you need to consider when selecting the perfect key switch. These are:These switches are linear to give you a similar smooth feel and have an actuation force of 45g. Along with this, Glorious Fox switches have a pre-travel of 2.2mm. Gateron Brown: Gateron Browns are probably your best bet if you want to save money but still have a high quality switch.
