Along the base of of each strip of spikes there are snap-off points making it easy to fit the spikes in small areas to the exact size required.

The Defender® Narrow Stainless Steel Bird Prevention Spikes are made from 304 Grade steel wires which protrude from a super tough Durolon UV Stabilised Polycarbonate base. This hard-wearing bird spike will triumph in all weather conditions and comes with a 25 Year "No Rust” Warranty when installed in the UK. Some lower-quality spikes available on the market can rust in a matter of years or even months - but these superior Defender® Narrow Stainless Steel Bird Spikes will protect your for years to come. Made in the UK The good news is that they can easily be protected. There is a range of suitable Defender® Bird Spikes for this job, which will come down to the width of your timber cross beams. Most Defender® Bird Spikes are available in plastic or steel. Our steel spikes come with a 25 Year Warranty, and plastic spikes have a 15 Year Warranty. They all do the same job of humanely stopping pigeons from landing on your pergola. Another method is to use cable ties. Again make sure you have the correct length spike for the individual bar. Hold the strip in place above the bar and wrap the cable tie around the base and the bar. Feed the end through the fastener and pull tight until the spike base is held in place securely. One cable tie at each end should be sufficient. The ends of the cable tie can be cut short to neaten the appearance or left long. If a seagull has already been using the area it may be heavily soiled with seagull droppings. If this is the case please see our "How to safely clean bird droppings guide" guide for more in-depth cleaning advice. These spikes are designed for pigeons and like-sized birds. They are a great solution for areas where pigeons are roosting or perching. However, they can also be used in high-pressure areas where pigeons are trying to nest or sleep overnight. Where can I use wide plastic spikes?Step 1 - Clean the Area: Make sure the area you are installing on is clean, dry, and has no loose dirt or debris. If a pigeon has already been nesting or roosting it may be heavily soiled with bird droppings. If this is the case please see our "How to safely clean bird droppings guide" guide for more in-depth details.

This tried and tested Defender® Seagull Deterrent Spike is the toughest gull deterrent on the UK and worldwide market and comes with a 25-Year “No Rust” Warranty when installed in the UK. This seagull spike has been made in the UK with the best quality materials that will withstand the most persistent and strong seagulls. The spike pins are made from 304 Grade stainless steel and are inserted by hand to ensure they are securely fixed in place. Each pin is inserted into a Durolon UV Stabilised Polycarbonate base. This ensures the spikes do not become damaged due to the adverse effects of extreme weather. Seagull Deterrent Spikes Made in the UK Defender® Wide Plastic Bird and Pigeon Spikes will protect a depth of ledge up to 15 cm (6 inches). They are great for all sorts of walls, beams and ledges around your property. If the ledge is wider, you can just add a second row of spikes, leaving as small a gap as possible between the tops of the pins. Alternatively, you may prefer to use our Extra Wide Stainless Steel Bird Spike that will protect ledges of up to 22.5 cm (9 inches) - Defender® 12 Stainless Steel Bird Spikes How do wide bird spikes work?

How to install Defender® Gutter Spikes

Aerial clips can be attached to the base of the pigeon deterrent spike. They very simply snap onto the base. Whatever length of bird spike strip you need, 2 clips are generally all that is needed for each piece, one at either end. Ensure the clips are facing the same way, on the same side of the spike base and are in a straight line. These clips can then be used to attach spike strips to the various director elements or bars along the main length. Be extra careful not to overstretch the clips to fit over a particularly wide bar. This could eventually cause stress fractures to the clip. If the bars are particularly thin, you may need to add a little of the included silicone to the inside of the clip just to hold it in place and upright. Defender® Pipe Spikes have 9 grooves along the base which can be easily snapped by hand to make a shorter length strip. The cable ties can then be simply relocated to the ends of the shorter piece, this ensures that any size pipe can be fully proofed against perching or roosting birds. Marine Grade Stainless Steel is now offered as an alternative to 304 Stainless Steel. It is particularly resistant to corrosion caused by sodium chloride. This makes it the ideal choice for use in harsh coastal areas.

Step 1 - Clean the Area: Make sure the area is clean, dry, and has no loose dirt or debris. For surfaces that are heavily soiled with bird droppings please see our "How to safely clean bird droppings guide" for more in-depth details. The Defender® Stainless Steel Ridge Spike has 2 rows of 15 cm (6 inches) long 304 Grade stainless steel pins. They protrude from the UV Stabilised Polycarbonate base of the spike at 2 different angles. This spread of pins acts as a bird deterrent and stops seagulls and birds from landing on the apex of the roof. Defender® Ridge Spikes have 2 rows of stainless steel pins that fan out. With this angle of pins, the bird and seagull ridge deterrent will stop birds from landing on the apex of any roof. How do ridge spikes stop seagulls landing? The Defender® Narrow Plastic Bird Spike is a great solution for stopping pigeons from landing on any area with a depth of up to 7.5 cm (3 inches). Most commonly these are narrow walls, fences, pergolas, sills, ledges, balcony railings, and even around the top of trampolines and swings. The 8 mm wide base can easily be fixed to most surfaces using our Defender® Fixing Silicone Adhesive Glue or small screws or even cable ties. If the ledge width is 7.5 cm or more, simply attach a second row of spikes leaving as small a gap as possible between the tops of the pins. Alternatively, you may prefer to use one row of our Defender® Wide Plastic Pigeon Spikes that will protect ledges up to 15 cm (6 inches) and is ideal if the area is used for overnight nesting or roosting. How do plastic bird spikes work?We have two types of bird spikes, stainless steel spikes with a polycarbonate base and all polycarbonate spikes. Both work equally well, however the polycarbonate spikes are slightly more visible. The spikes come in a range of widths and spike densities depending on the depth of the area you are trying to protect. Seagulls are prevalent in coastal areas so we now offer the Defender® Gull Spike in 316 Marine Grade Stainless Steel as an alternative to the standard 304 Grade Stainless Steel. 316 steel has added Molybdenum which makes it particularly resistant to sodium chloride and therefore perfect for the harsher environment of the coast. First, make sure the strip of plastic bird spike is the correct length for the bar or director element on the aerial that you are bird-proofing. The Defender® Bird Spike strips have snappable grooves along the base so can be very easily snapped by hand to the correct size to perfectly cover the length of the bar. Every inch of the aerial should be proofed from birds especially if they already use your aerial or satellite as a perch. Once you have the correct size of bird spike, you can decide on the correct method of attachment. If you are using on a curved satellite dish, the base is flexible along the length or it can be snapped into small pieces to accommodate the curve.
