About this deal

Or if you wait another month or two, you can tie a little red ribbon around them, and give out heart pop valentines. The directions on the container of chocolate said that I needed to melt the chocolate in the microwave at 50% power until ¾ melted, stirring every 30-60 seconds. Once it was mostly melted, I just stirred to melt the rest. I prefer the Brachs brand if you can find them. They are always good quality and you won’t often find a lot of broken candy in the box. Stop microwaving when there are a few small solid pieces in the chocolate, and stir until the remaining solids melt. Arrange candy canes on a parchment covered baking sheet so that the ends are touching and create a loose heart shape. What if your candy canes are all broken?

If at any point the candy canes get too cool and become too difficult to shape, return them to the oven to soften for a few additional minutes. Once all of the hearts are formed, let them cool completely at room temperature before proceeding. Line the baking tray with parchment paper. Unwrap the candy canes and lay pairs of them together to make heart shapes on the parchment paper. Ensure the candy canes are touching at the tops and bottoms. Place your baking paper on your baking sheet and arrange the candy canes into heart shapes. The mini candy canes are the right size for this, but if you’re using larger ones you can trim them down if you need to.Learn how easy it is to create candy cane hearts, a perfect Valentine’s Day treat! Featuring colorful sprinkles, these candy cane hearts with white chocolate are a fun project to make with your kids. If you have ever wondered what to do with leftover candy canes, these treats are for you!

This is a great way to use up all the extra candy canes that are left over from the Christmas holiday. My neighbor shared this great idea for forming two candy canes into one big heart. It’s perfect for Valentines. Using a spoon or decorator’s bag, drop your melted chocolate into the center of the candy cane, being careful to not hit the sides. I recommend starting in the center and gently pushing the chocolate out using the tip of the spoon until it is even. Sorry, I didn’t take a picture of this process for this project. Valentine’s Day Sprinkles and Coconut What I mean is sometimes the candy canes are imperfect and may not match the size or shape of each other.

Before your chocolate sets, you’ll want to add sprinkles to the top. I used a combination of mini hearts and gold confetti sprinkles along with some red nonpareils. Dying coconut is really easy. All you will need is a sealed baggie and food dye. For this project you wouldn’t need a lot of coconut, perhaps 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup for each color, depending upon how many you made. You could make extra and use it for other Valentine’s Day treats! To make, add coconut to your baggie and drop 2 to 3 drops of food dye. Seal it shut and shake it well until all the coconut is evenly colored.

Chocoley provided the melting chocolate for the insides of these hearts. They sent me 2.5 pounds of their Bada Bing Bada Boom Gourmet Compound Chocolate Candy & Molding Formula in White. Our Christmas candy cane heart craft comes with child-friendly instructions and clear photographs for each stage of the craft. Children of all ages and abilities can create their candy cane decorations with confidence. What Other Crafts Can I Make at Home? But what hasn’t changed is that every time I’ve made candy cane hearts with chocolate, the kids go completely bonkers with anticipation. I can’t tell you how many times I had to say ‘not yet’ when photographing these cuties. It’s a good thing we’re not doing classroom gifts this year, because I don’t think there would be any left to hand out. But if you can keep your kids away from them… Melt both candy coatings in separate microwave-safe bowls, heating them in short bursts and stirring frequently to prevent overheating. If you want to intensify the peppermint flavor in this candy, add a drop or two of peppermint oil (not extract! Be sure that your flavoring is oil-based instead of water-based, so you don’t ruin your chocolate) to the chocolate during this step.Depending on the type of your peppermint flavour you might need to add 1-2 teaspoons of the extract. I’ve added 2 teaspoons and the flavour was fairly minty, but not overpowering. We choose pipe cleaners for this craft because they are such a versatile and simple material to use as a craft resource. They can come in different colours and can be twisted, shaped, cut, bent and glued in a huge variety of different craft activities. Don’t you love these!? They are so adorable! They would make such a cute treat to take to school, or even to the office. First, I unwrapped the candy canes and set them out in sets of two, in the shape of a heart. I set up two sets of regular-sized candy canes and six sets of mini candy canes. Here I used a pretty box from a set of 4×6 notecards to hold the peppermint bark hearts. The tag fits perfectly over top. Don’t you just love it when things come together that nicely?
