About this deal

The next major step in my quest was to explore computer audio, where I had the possibility of installing many music files using the program JRiver Media Center 19 as my player/server. This, of course, is a monumental deviation from the simple iPod approach, since high-resolution files could now be played with my computer rig. As my friends and close colleagues would tell you, I’ve never stopped pursuing every aspect of audio reproduction, ultimately looking for greater sonic realizations of live music. This time it happened with headphones instead of loudspeakers. In this critical frequency range, the LCD-X showcases remarkable resolution, allowing guitars, other musical instruments, and vocals to shine with clarity and authenticity. Instruments The tonal qualities of pianos, brass instruments, and woodwinds are faithfully reproduced, allowing you to appreciate the full range of harmonics and overtones that these instruments produce.

At the beginning of this review, I stated that the LCD-X 2021 has been greatly improved when it comes to its tuning compared to the original LCD-X. See, the original one was a great headphone in many ways, but it had one, major problem – the midrange. It just sounded off and unnatural, and its pleasant overall tone couldn’t have saved it. Either of these are far beyond any conventional headphone at any price for smoothness and deep bass. As I said before, the midrange is where the new LCD-X differs the most when compared to the original LCD-X. It is one of the most neutral and natural sounding mid in all of LCD series to date. The original one was warm, dark, and a bit veiled in the midsection, which is not the case in the 2021 version at all.

Sound

Audeze, as a brand, is renowned for its commitment to delivering high-quality audio experiences, and the X is a prime example of their dedication to excellence in sound reproduction. Planar Magnetic Technology Last but definitely not least – you can choose between leather and leather-free earpads. Mine pair is leather, and I could tell that right away because of…the smell. It is definitely the best smelling pair of headphones in my collection. Of course, it is not as important as many other things when it comes to headphones, but it’s definitely a welcome treat to have. Who doesn’t like the smell of quality leather? By the end of this review, you’ll have a comprehensive understanding of what these headphones offer and whether they align with your audio expectations and preferences. Audeze LCD-X

I said to myself my B&W PX 7’s give out a better sound for a fraction of the cost. I then connected them to the home system which is a Technics set up… and wow that’s when they truly came alive !! This mammoth elephant-sized headphone is even heavier than the LCD-2 which I didn’t think was possible. Unlike the LCD-3, I was able to audition the new “X” roughly a week after it was released. Even better, I was able to get a unit home for a review. Exciting times and though I was hoping for an XC review as well, I figured I’d write a SHORT impression on what I have right now. This transparency ensures that the headphones faithfully reproduce the original recording, allowing you to perceive the music exactly as the artist and sound engineer intended. Wide Genre Versatility

For creating music and other audio content, what you hear is what you got. These are completely transparent. The only potential gotcha is that nothing other than the most advanced speakers or other planar magnetic headphones can reproduce deep bass as flawlessly as these headphones do, and otherwise they are completely neutral and uncolored. For bass heads, the LCD-X offers an unparalleled experience, providing a level of depth and power that can truly be felt.

The Audeze LCD-X, Fazor, and a Fresh Listen to the Current LCD-2 and LCD-3 Page 2

When it comes to guitars, the LCD-X excels at rendering the intricate details of string instruments. The long mini-XLR connectors that poke out of each earpiece can poke your collarbone if worn lying in bed, bent forward looking at an iPad. The combination of resolution and soundstage creates a sense of depth and realism that sets Audeze headphones apart.

The LCD-1 are about as sensitive as the LCD-X when fed from the Apple Lightning to Headphone adapter. What’s probably the most interesting – I find the LCD-X 2021 more comfortable, even though they are definitely heavier. However, they simply hug your head and are more pleasing to the touch, while the D8000 Pro has a higher clamping force and their earpads are nowhere as comfy and plush as the ones in LCD-X. Another of the reasons for my attendance was an outgrowth of my recent participation in The Absolute Sound’s great new major volume, the Illustrated History of High-End Audio, Volume One: Loudspeakers—an invitation to dinner with friends and colleagues that I hadn’t seen in a number of years. The dinner was to be hosted by Jim Hannon, the vice president/group publisher of The Absolute Sound, and would take place on the Saturday night of the show. Robert Harley and Jonathan Valin and his wife, Kathy, were also to attend. The dinner was a very festive occasion, with great conversation, food, and wine. We discussed everything from our favorite recorded music, to how the harmonics of a violin were so difficult to reproduce by audio systems, and finally, to what we thought were the best-sounding exhibits at the show. Obviously, all of us were having a wonderful time and suddenly near the end of our get together, I was asked by Jonathan Valin, “Why don’t you review for The Absolute Sound?” To say that I was taken by surprise is an understatement. My answer was that I would have to think about that since I’d never written a review of any product in my long years of working in audio. Undeterred, he then asked if I did accept the review challenge, what would be the first thing I’d like to review? Without a second of hesitation my reply was a state-of-the-art headphone. Needless to say he was astonished since everyone at the table knew that in my long career in audio I was mostly involved in designing high- end loudspeakers. Their next question was simply, “Arnie, why headphones?” Although, like any premium headphones, the LCD-X’s will sound better when driven by a dedicated headphone amplifier, their high sensitivity figure means that they can be driven to respectable levels by your smartphone or tablet. The reference-level LCD-X is an exciting addition to our LCD planar magnetic headphone collection. The LCD-X features a newly-developed and processed transducer made of a thinner and lighter alternative material with new Fazor technology. you will experience those out-of-your-head moments when it feels like stuff is happening around you rather than through the headphones. dB SPL, which means, ignoring any potential power compression, that maximum SPL happens with >3.16V or >+10 dBV or > -3 dBW or >500 mW input into 20 Ω.
