About this deal

The song's inspiration stems from a trip when the band was on their way to record for Satellite on March 5, 2001. They were held up in traffic and discovered that the reason was a mass shooting at Santana High School, where a fifteen-year-old student named Charles Andrew Williams killed two and wounded thirteen. The album was consequently delayed, and the band was inspired to write "Youth of the Nation." Youth of the Nation” was written by four members of P.O.D. (lead vocalist Sonny Sandoval, bass player Traa Daniels, drummer Noah Bernardo, and lead guitarist Marcos Curiel). The Columbine High School massacre was perpetrated by two senior students of the Columbine High School 17-year-old Dylan Klebold and 18-year-old Eric Harris. The massacre, which lasted from 11:19 a.m. to 12:08 p.m., claimed the lives of 12 students and a teacher. The shooting also left 24 others with various degrees of injuries. After the killings, the two perpetrators exchanged fire with police before committing suicide. The pair’s motives for committing the heinous crime still remain unclear.

Kaveh from Urbana, Ohthe only thing i can say is thank you p.o.d. for making this song because it has helped alot of people out an that was there goal even if it touched one person it meant that the meaning of this song was understood The chorus is a statement, one of the nation’s youth who are supposed to be the new leaders moving the nation forward instead are having to deal with anger, depression, and violence amongst themselves. Perla from San Diego, Caeverytime i hear this song i feel like going on a mission for god and bringing other teens to him. and i always want to cry when i hear this song even though i've heard it a million times. Tanna from Santee, CaThank you so much this song has touched alot of people especially the ones there that tragic day as well as their family and friends. SHS we will never forget That aura of positivity hadn’t faded by the time Youth Of The Nation was released as a single that November. It may have been inspired by an entirely different tragedy, but the opening lines could have been written about 9/11: 'Last day of the rest of my life/I wish I would’ve known cos I didn’t kiss my momma goodbye.’Sonny Sandoval told us: "We had always been a touring band and we had toured through Colorado, even when Columbine had happened, and we had an awesome underground following, even of kids in Colorado. So when we toured through Colorado, some of the kids that survived the Columbine shootings put on a fund raiser, so we've always been kind of involved in that. We're hanging out with young kids, we're talking with kids, and that was one of the things that was going on when we were touring so many years ago. So it had always been something that was on our shoulders. Kristin from Silent Hill, AustraliaI am doing an english assignment on this song, it is a woderful and meaningful song. Chase from San Diego, CaThank you for the song. Our school is and always will be greatful. The kids who did this were Christians, but everyone will label them differently to protect the religion.I don't think you understand death. Have you ever been near it, or even thought about it. Telling us to all die in a brutal way is stupid. You are the type that likes to pass the blame, people are the root of all problems. Hopefully the tragedies of the school shootings will never be repeated. It was a very frightening time to be going to school not knowing if any the kids you're there with will one day snap.

As they talked, guitarist Marcos Curiel began strumming sombre chords. “We just started to jam,” says Sandoval. “Just to get out what we were feeling.” A vocal hook came to the singer: 'We are, we are… the youth of the nation.' Religion causes 99% of the worlds death and conflict, so before you hide behind your bible get an actual understanding of it and dont just do the typical retard thing of interpreting it to suit yourself. Galen from California , CaI was one of the kids who survived the shooting and when I heard about them writing a song about it I couldn't wait to hear it.Laine from Detroit, MiThis song tells a big story with a lot of people very eloquently. It really puts you in the shoes of the shooter, and all the people whose lives were ended. No matter how unrelated their lives were before, they were all joined together in the end in the shooting. Raoul Duke from Here, Careally powerful song... gives me chills everytime i hear it. wow. we really are the youth of a (deleted) up nation. And then when this happened it was like wow, what's going on with these kids? And it was like here it is, these are the youth of the nation. So it just sparked that whole story."

Jeff from Norco, Cageez first this toby guy chill out first WW1 and 2 iraq war civil war 100 years war american revolution french revolution vietnam korean cold war the list goes on they had nothing to with religion but political aspects so clearly ur statistic is way off and there r instances where atheists have persecuted us like north korea where they slaughtered millions of us so it is just as easy to say that ur kind should die as u say ours should ...u might want to think before u speak and just so ur aware the chemical associated with anger clouds the brains ability to think...and unless ya can prove with facts and u have seen all the evidence that there is no god u cant say one does not exist if ya cant prove he does not exist then one must logically be an agnostic open to the idea anyway this song is awesome it got me through rough times Youth of the Nation" contains three stories of adolescent tragedy in American culture. It begins by describing a teenager skating to school only to be shot by a fellow student. Lyrics go on to speculate whether or not the boy who committed the act felt unloved. Following the chorus, a 12-year-old girl called "little Suzie" is depicted as having been abandoned by her father and subsequently "finding love in all the wrong places." Finally, another teen known as "Johnny boy" fails to fit in with his peers and ultimately commits suicide by firearm, "[telling] the world how he felt with the sound of a gat [handgun]." [2] Music video [ edit ] Lane from Lansing, IaTruly a deep song, and all you people who think it's Christians that do this look up "voice of the martyrs" then you will find the truth.Don from Hermosa Beach, CaToby i hope you read this you are the ignorent type of person that causes hate if 99% of all war and death is caused by religion you do realize everyone would be dead because the mass amounts of different religions and only 2% of the entire population have no belife you are a retard The video features a prefamous Joel David Moore as the teenager driving the car. [5] [ bettersourceneeded] Haleigh from Colorado Springs, Cowhen i was in 6th grade this song came out and i loved it. it remined me of how we are the ones that are going to be caring this nation in a few years. but the way its going we will never make it. It is worth noting that despite the song being inspired by real school shootings in America, the three tragic stories above aren’t based on any real events.
