Mr Muizzu won the presidential election in September, defeating incumbent Ibrahim Solih in a runoff after promising to remove 75 Indian military personnel operating in the nation. Loading...

The series has been produced for BBC Scotland by Glasgow based Maramedia in co-production with Terra Mater Studios, Skyland Productions and Doclights/NDR Naturfilm. Other series Maramedia has made for BBC Scotland include the award-winning Highlands : Scotland’s Wild Heart, Stormborn , Wild Shetland and Hebrides: Islands on the Edge. Making wildlife programmes in Scotland is as about as good as it gets," according to wildlife cameraman Fergus Gill, whose credits include Maramedia’s Stormborn and Shetland – Scotland’s Viking Frontier. So this could mean staying in a field, parking up by a lake, in a beach carpark, or in a large parking layby. The main train station is in Aviemore – regular trains from Edinburgh, Perth, Glasgow, Inverness and an overnight sleeper from London stop here. Anyone planning to travel by train can make journeys across the UK with Scotrail and East Coast Trains. You might consider using Trainline to plan your journey. The Three Lochs Forest drive is a popular diving route that essentially takes you through a forest that covers 3 beautiful lochs. Mr Wilders' rode a wave of anti-immigration sentiment, blaming a housing shortage on flows of asylum seekers and drawing on widespread concerns about the cost of living and the overburdened healthcare system.

The absence of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who attended the inauguration of the previous president in 2018, was noticeable at Mr Muizzu's swearing-in ceremony.

Narrator, Thoren Ferguson, says: "Perhaps you think you know Scotland… this land of proud tradition, rugged mountains, sparkling lochs and heather clad hills.

Wonderful spot, but it is exposed to the elements. Best wild camping spots on the NC500 Applecross (IV54 8XT, Strathcarron) A lot of mainstream parties are reluctant to join forces with Mr Wilders and his party, but the size of his victory strengthens his hand in negotiations. The three episodes, titled Islands, Lowlands and Highlands, are full of spectacle and surprise from rutting red deer stags in the glens to battling grey seal bulls on remote islands and the beauty of the outer Hebridean Machair. Other highlights include the urban beavers of Perth, dashing peregrine falcons above the streets of Edinburgh, miniature wonders like the aphid-farming wood ants and the astonishing bog raft spider – an invertebrate that walks on water. We didn’t end up staying overnight here, we just stopped for the facilities, but I think it’s a great spot so worth mentioning. The hills of the Highlands are the starting point of many of Scotland’s great rivers and here a pair of dippers are hard at work building a nest. These industrious birds are nesting earlier than ever before in response to a warming climate. As long as you park somewhere sensible, remote and you aren’t invading a “no overnight parking” sign then you’ll find you have no trouble wild camping in Scotland.

Wild camping in Scotland will allow you the opportunity to stay in some extremely beautiful locations. In the town of Braemar you have public toilets, and lots of cute coffee shops, but I recommend you head to “The Wee Bothy” for a morning drink! Balmoral Castle The parking for the castle is 2 minutes to the castle so you can go for a morning or evening stroll. They’re encouraging it further with their “Stay the night” campaign that was trialed by the Forestry Commission.Winter can be brutal here in the Highlands, with snow falling and temperatures dropping into the -20C’s. In this tough weather mountain hares are seeking shelter, to wait out the weather. Nearby red deer are being forced off the hillsides and into the forest in search of food, as the snow becomes too deep to dig through. These animals are hardy and have evolved to cope with such conditions. But not all will survive the weather, and some will provide a welcome meal for the apex predators of these hills – the magnificent golden eagle. A species very much holding its own in Scotland – the Highlands are a European Stronghold for this special species. Living in rural Perthshire, it meant cameraman Fergus was having to sit and study the fauna virtually on his own doorstep that spring. And from that came one of the magical scenes in the series, a woodland glen carpeted with bluebells, with red squirrels and roe deer. That means taking your rubbish with you, your belongings, and ensuring you don’t ruin the environment you’re staying at. Why should you wild camp in Scotland?
