About this deal

Hot water, steaming showers and toasty radiators are one of life’s essentials and with a combi boiler you can seamlessly switch from one to another. And this is thanks to a part called the diverter valve, which diverts hot water to exactly where you need it. But if your diverter valve starts to fail, you can be left with intermittent heating, lukewarm water or in the worst case, no heating at all. As you slowly unscrew the radiator, you'll hear a hissing noise. The hissing noise is the air escaping and slowly the noise will change to a steady squirt of water. At this point tighten up the air vent. It may even be the case that you hear the air banging around your pipeworkfrom time-to-time and it can often be tough to diagnose just how it got there and why. The flow diverter is designed to ensure all parts of the radiator get as warm or hot as it should be. Begin by ensuring that your central heating system is switched on and verify that the thermostat is correctly set.

Incidentally, this continuing cold weather has meant I have managed to do a a proper test at home and I have no complaints about these radiators not heating sufficiently!! When it comes to installing your vertical radiator, the general rule is that it should be mounted 150mm above the skirting in the room. Your floorboards can have an influence over this, however, as it can determine where it is fitted. One of the areas which i cannot work out is regarding the pump pictured above - this is not plumbed into the heating circuit, only the hot water. If this is correct then the only central heating pump is the one located in the boiler - what are the circumstances that would mean an additional pump is also required? (like the above but plumbed into the heating circuit). I have tried to annotate the original photo which shows the flows. NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and Ulster Bank, which are all part of the NatWest Group, will now shut at least 172 of their bank branches in 2023 and 2024. Do you have a Power of Attorney? Need help deciding? From technical stuff to cool design ideas, our heating buying guides will help you decide which rad is best for your home. View Guides Hard to make out which valves are on which circuit, and whether the pump is only on the hot water. However, if other radiators get hot likely to be OK. What type of rads have you fitted? It is very unlikely they have dedicated 'sides' and should be fitable either way around. Please Note: This flow diverter is not suitable for use with the Milano Windsor range of traditional column radiators, MIlano Skye and Aruba Ayre or with radiators that have an internal pipe size larger than 36mm. Ditto with these valves - the TRVs are bi-directional so can be fitted to either end, flow or return.

If you’re comfortable with basic DIY, removing sludge from one radiator is a pretty simple (though sometimes messy) job. Vertical radiators are a great idea for those people who like to rearrange their living spaces. They are also much more versatile, as they look good in older homes, as well as new builds. There are many benefits of a vertical radiator. Hubby thinks that the internal bore must be very small, so as the water is pumped around slowly, it takes that long to reach the other end, that the water has lost its temperature, and is actually cool as it exits. Does this sound reasonable and is this taken into account when calculating the btu's. Or have we just got a duff radiator? There are a few reasons to find air trapped in your central heating system and a lot of the time it will find its way into one of your radiators and result in a cold spot. Please help, I can bear the thought of another cold winter!! Heating was on today for an hour and the rest of the house warmed nicely but this room barely rose .2 degrees!

A single radiator is a superb choice for the style and opulence a vertical model offers. If you’re after a warmer room, remember that vertical models emit more heat, without using a great amount of energy. However, if your boiler was installed more than 10 years ago, you may want to consider a new boiler, which will iron out the diverter valve problems as well as run much more efficiently and help to keep those energy bills down. Your gas safe engineer can advise you on the best products and arrange the new replacement boiler installation. A diverter valve is not required in system and conventional boilers as the hot water they produce is stored in a hot water tank for when it is needed. If you find that your radiator is heating up nicely at the bottom and yet the top of it remains cold, the chances are you have air trapped in the system.
