With such a depth to Joel and his love for Callie he lives his life with realism and sacrifices that Im not sure I could make. Although the plot doesn’t explore that alley, I couldn't resist letting these questions hang in the air… Narrated in the first person with chapters which alternate between Joel and Callie the story conveys both characters empathy, resilience and compassion in the face of extraordinarily testing circumstances. Despite not being a fan of love stories this one had rather more depth to it than usual and the characters actually felt like they had a meaningful connection and convincing rapport.
Joel is a loner. Since childhood, he has had dreams that always come true. His dreams are only about those he loves so he keeps his circle small. He avoids romance and has few friends. Some dreams reveal happy news to come, some foresee bad things that can be avoided with some creative warnings. Others show future illnesses and tragedies. Fans of The Light We Lost and The Time Traveler's Wife will fall hard for this heart-breaking but ultimately life-affirming novel." - Booklist Such a well written book this is a romance story with a difference and I bet will be turned into a movie.

We then find out what Joel's secret is. I personally did not want to know in advance what it was (but it is listed in the book blurb). But it has to do with dreams.Joel has dreams - don't we all - but his foretell the future. He has hidden this ability from everyone since he was a child and it has affected his whole life especially his ability to make relationships. So when he meet Callie he is desperate not to get involved but he does and finds happiness until one night he dreams of their fate. I’ve never read this author before but I definitely will be in the future. The BEST chic lit I’ve read in 2019 for sure, perhaps even longer. Joel has sworn off falling in love.
