About this deal

Is it heavy? Yes. It's it 80's masculine/macho powerhouse? Yes. But is it totally unique in today's world of sweet/fresh dime-a-dozen scents? Totally. In the late 90's my dad give me a used bottle of this stuff, that was getting almost syrupy. I remember loving those leathery/woody notes and the fact that as previous reviewers have stated, this is a 'take no prisoners' scent. I've sampled quite a few scents from the 70's/80's and I don't fully agree with the comparisons between Red and Quorum or Polo Green. From all the recommendations here I *had* to try them, but both Quorum and Polo Green to me have this almost synthetic nauseating quality that extremely cheap toilet-fresheners have, whereas if your bathroom would smell like Giorgio Red, it's probably a very well-cleaned, John Lautner-designed outhouse with a leather seat amidst sequoia trees. ;-) As a teen when I wore Giorgio it was a theatrical fantasy. I wasn't a little awkward dark haired girl. I was vibrant, I was a hair-sprayed blonde, I had a convertible and a phone shaped like a burger in my bedroom, all the boys at school were in awe of me and looked confusingly like they were in their mid 20's... In this fragrance the sweet pungency of the artemisia is modified by the basil. By itself the Artemisia is really aromatic, but in a way good only for keeping moths away. The other herbs add dimension to the herbaceous aspect of the artemisia and the bergamot adds dimension to the sweet aspect. The multi-noted floral middle adds yet another layer of complexity and underpins the initial herbaceous blast. The herbal notes continue to last through the middle of this fragrance’s life. After about two hours it is still potent, though softer as the floral notes take the edge off the waning herbs. None of the base notes particularly stand out, they are a mixed bag, but are predominantly woody (I would call this a woody aromatic fragrance).

It is quite lovely. To my inexpert nose Red for Men has an elegant aromatic theme with subtle spices and floral notes, on a resinous, leathery amber foundation. Like vintage Giorgio for Men of the same era, the impression is high quality and almost niche. Red for Men smells somehow Italian, reminiscent of one of those intricate fragrances by Florentine artisan perfumers with hundreds of ingredients. Performance and longevity are above average. Why? Because, in the end, your signature scent isn't really something you can choose. It's something that fits you, a descriptor in scent. It's who you are - not who you want to be. I can smell grassy or citrus-y, or aqueus... but at best they become personas. But Red is me, with the gloves off.I had this a few years ago and LOVED it! A little goes a long way. I love its sweetness - like biting into a chewy fruit candy paired with more sophisticated woody tones - YUM! I decided this would be my new signature (as Elysium is sadly discontinued) and bought a new bottle. To my horror the new one smelt awful! The sweetness was overpowered by something else - something so awful I can't even describe it! Not sure if I got one that was off or if they changed the formula. Either way, I haven't been game to try again.

Recently found two 10ml minis and a bunch of promotional stuff in a ‘Red for Men’ toiletries bag from when this was launched in 1991. Middle notes: living carnation, rose de mai, marigold, living jasmine, rosemary, gardenia, tuberose, iris, lily-of-the-valley, litchi, mimosa, Bulgarian rose Right after spraying, Red is way too sythetic smelling on my skin, and it tends to smell quite a long like this when smelling up close the wrists. However, thenice fragrance cloud it creates around me is beautiful with the above mentioned slightly chypre-like character and oriental spices, fruits and flowers. It comes close to being too cloyingly sweet for but finally the notes balace out nicely. This is a yellow flower, tuberose bomb and I like tuberose. This is somewhat suffocating, almost a scrubber, except it smells good. It's just SUPER SWEET on me in a way gourmands aren't. This is a ripe open flower. This is It wears so well and projects just right. The silage is noticeable and garners some comments, always on the positive side. So I leaned a lesion from my trip to Giorgio. Even when you go slumming in Beverly Hills don’t be a snob, take a chance once in a while and try something you never dreamed you would like. You might find that Beverly Hills in a certain light looks a little like Paris! It's still a powerhouse perfume and I love it for that! Same notes and that same beautiful, gorgeous and sultry fragrance I always remembered. And so I was a happy young woman, happy because Giorgio Beverly Hills is, at its heart, a happy, fun-loving fragrance. Happy because my chemistry made this fragrance blossom and sing, and this unique fragrance was "mine" and mine alone, at least for a short while. But soon enough, that all changed. Additional fragrances were produced under the Giorgio Beverly Hills label, but the original fragrance, with its intense floral notes, remains the most popular. Still in production today, the scent recently celebrated its 30th anniversary. The license-holder for Giorgio Beverly Hills fragrances today is Elizabeth Arden.

I definitely recommend this scent only if you can handle a strongish fragrance...definitely not for the faint of heart. The dry down is still spectacular and I have to say, on me, it's soft and still the holds the same smell....I don't smell fluctuations in the quality or the notes at all - at least on me. I grew up in the 90s, in the Mediterranean, so I wasn't sure if I'd recognize this allegedly famous/cult fragrance. My favorite note is the gardenia. There is a creaminess there that contrasts beautifully with the chamomile. I’d like to get my hands on a vintage where the oak moss hasn’t been tampered with. Does not fill a large room but people can smell this within 6 feet, and it draws in many, many complements! Giorgio Beverly Hills was a luxury goods store established in 1961. It was the first luxury boutique to be founded on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, California.Besides, Giorgio will always remind me of my mother smiling every time I gift her with a new optimistic white and yellow box with her favorite perfume.

This...is...absolutely...BEAUTIFUL! This is definitely a woman's perfume, not a girls perfume, at all! This is super sexy and sophisticated! This reminds me of the strong business women of the 80’s. With their designer outfits, shoulder pads, big hair, brightly coloured makeup and a real “I am woman, hear me roar” attitude when they stride down the halls of a workplace, as you hear their high-healed stilettos crash like the sound of glass breaking with each step as a reminder that they can put you in your place, even if you’re a man and fire you on the spot, so watch what you say and do...as they fill the air with RED each time they rush by! It's true that it's a juice that has a very strong character, and already for that I like it a lot. I think one of the "problems" some aficionados have when trying to grasp Red is that it doesn't fit easily into any established category. Lavender is clearly present, but it's not a typical fougere (lavender isn't listed on any note pyramid for it that I've seen, for some reason). There's also a minty quality that's not listed. And there is spice, amber, and sweetness, but it's not an oriental. There is a "sweaty"/"dirty," Yatagan-like quality. There is also a mossy chypre quality. And there is also a strong wood note, supposedly sequoia (which may be what gives this an interesting dry quality, though the dryness is more of a facet than something that dominates it all the time), but it's not as much a focus to this fragrances as is the case for one like Green Jeans. There's even a subtle floral element. Instead, it has excellent balance among the many notes (all of which I enjoy, as long as they are not really strong). To me, this is not just acceptable (if done well), but should be viewed as the height of modern, "designer" perfumery. The dynamism here is fabulous, the note contrast (as well as note separation) is incredible, and there is no "synthetic"' quality. And while it is "deep" and rich, it's also "uplifting," related to the mint aspect, presumably, but possibly to the juniper, wormwood, and basil notes as well. It may not be as natural smelling as the best niche (and a few great designer ones), but it's good enough for me (I just don't wear it after wearing one of those really natural smelling ones). It's everything I expected and more, rich smokey fruits and flowers with just the right amount of spice. Complex and ever changing it wears beautifully despite what some reviewers may say. I'm wearing Halston Classic today which I love, but I'm tempted to take a bath and properly apply Red all over me to get its full effect. I'm not surprised that the nose behind this has done mostly men's offerings, it's totally unisex ( if you believe in gendering perfumes, which I do not,but I digress) I'm extreamly happy with red and if you love loud n proud oriental fragrances you will be too!

Red is...well, red as it is.It is the bright side of the 80s, the shoulder power suit, the glossy pantyhose, the times of almost virginal 90s are not yet seen in the crystal ball and the party goes on full blast. If it is a rose - by god, it is long stemmed, velvety and intoxicating, and the skankiness - it will make the civet cat have seizures from envy.Beware of the staying power, it is beyond your wildest dreams. This just smells 80s, and for me that's a culmination of things: sadness over lies from a 90s/00s childhood, a vivid, glassy daydream everyone remembers and loves yet feels embarrassed about having. Summer, stripes and synths that echo the remnants of good things long gone and only remembered, savoured in a song or a scent. It’s very elegant, and to me very tasteful. I saw a woman and her daughter on YouTube completely bash this! I don’t know why? I guess we all have different opinions?! Surprisingly, I really like this. I was born in the 90s, so I didn’t get to experience this one in its heyday. But it’s pretty. The opening is incredible - peaches, apricot, gardenia…very sweet. Big. In your face. I don’t find it “sharp”.
