Pop up bath waste and overflow is exactly as it sounds. To release water, you simply twist a dial right above the overflow hole and the plug ‘pops’ up. They’re far more minimal in style than a standard plug and chain as they bypass the ‘chain’. This means they look a lot more stylish too, great for a more modern bathroom suite. Depending on the complexity of the components, what access you have to your bath, and the type of bath waste you’re installing, you can either follow our step-by-step guide or hire one of our plumbing experts to help you. Are bath wastes a standard size? It sounds complicated, but you just need to unscrew the connectors at each end – which should just be held in place with nuts, meaning a spanner is all you need. Once they’re loosened, you can disconnect the pipe at both ends and remove. The best place to start is to remove your drain fitting from the bottom of your bathtub. There are a few different styles of fittings, so you may need to unscrew your drain cover before you get to it.The first thing you need to do is get access to your existing tub. This job is much easier for baths you haven’t yet installed. So, depending on the type of tub and fittings you have, this will either be a simple or difficult step. For example, freestanding tubs or those with slip fittings will make your life easier. If you’re plumbing in a new bath, you will eventually come to fit the bath waste. Or, if your old bath waste has corrosion or is leaking or damaged, you may find yourself in a situation where you need to replace it. If you are unsure on what to look for when choosing your bath waste and plug, have a read through our blog for a more in depth guide to bath wastes.

If you are replacing an old bath waste, the first thing you need to do is get access to underneath the bath. Then, you can start removing the old bath waste. Once you’re sure it’s all there, start on your new system by connecting your plastic pipe to your new bath wastes at both ends. Once you do, find the single screw in the centre of your waste cover and use your screwdriver to unscrew it. That should mean you can now remove the outer bath waste from the bath. First, use a screwdriver to unscrew the waste cover plate in the bathtub and remove it. Then remove the large washer. The bath waste is the component that drains the water from your bath to the wastewater pipe going to the outside drain. If your bath has an overflow, then you want to make sure that the waste you choose has a built in overflow. This way, your waste, plug and overflow will all be coordinated, giving your bathroom a more finished and sophisticated look.
