About this deal

A common ingredient in bars of soap is sodium tallowate, made from rendered animal fat. Stearic acid and glycerin in soap may also be animal derived, whilst honey, lanolin and milk can be added. We have a short article looking at animal products in cosmetics and toiletries where you can find out more. From the late 19th century, Pears soap became famous for its marketing, masterminded by Barratt. Its campaign using John Everett Millais' painting Bubbles continued over many decades. As with many other brands at the time, at the beginning of the 20th century, Pears also used its product as a sign of the prevailing European concept of the " civilizing mission" of empire and trade, in which the soap stood for progress. Pears Pure & Gentle Transparent Soap Bar with Natural Oils carries our iconic fragrance of natural oils like Rosemary, Lavender and Thyme.

Pears isn’t completely organic. It contains synthetic lab-made or plant-derived chemicals like propylene glycol, BHT, and Tetrasodium EDTA. These chemicals aid in better absorption, maintaining chemical stability, and function as preservatives respectively. Francis Pears, The Skin, Baths, Bathing, and Soap. London, 1859. Google Books. Retrieved 12 March 2014.Pears soaps and body washes are paraben-free. Parabens are usually added as preservatives. They prolong the soap’s shelf-life. They prevent the growth of bacteria or fungi. Instead, Pears uses Butylated HydroxyToluene (BHT) and Sodium Meta-bisulfite. A. and F. Pears and Lever Brothers. The Times, Friday, Aug 14, 1914; pg. 2; Issue 40604. Category: Business and Finance Is heavier: Containing lots of water, liquid soaps are likely to be heavier than bar soap, resulting in a higher carbon footprint for transportation. A Greenpeace report criticised PZ Cussons in 2018 for not giving any details about its palm oil supply chain despite having “no deforestation, no peat, no exploitation” (NDPE) policies. It targetted the Carex brand and told the company to “come clean”.

Glycerin is the main hydrating ingredient in Pears soap. It doesn’t coat the skin with a greasy film. This allows the skin to breathe, keeping it vibrant and healthy. Pears soap is meant to be a universal cleanser. It doesn’t contain bleach or any bleaching agents. It is not meant to change the shade of skin or improve complexion. In the late 19th century, to publicise its products, Pears distributed coins countermarked with "Pears Soap". They were 10- centime French coins, imported by Pears. About the same size and shape as the British penny of the time, the French coins were generally accepted as pennies in Britain.

Damages aquatic life: What you use on your body ends up in the water system. Liquid detergents may contain harmful substances that can bioaccumulate in living organisms. Anyway, all supplies of old Pears now seem to have dried up, so I can spill the beans without anyone else getting the same idea. It's all mine. I'm pretty sure I have enough Pears soap to last the rest of my life. Pears soap is now made in India by Hindustan Unilever, a company in which Unilever now has a 67 percent share.Jones, Geoffrey (2010). Beauty Imagined: A History of the Global Beauty Industry. Oxford University Press. p.81. On 27 February 2003 the 7th Amendment to the EU Cosmetics Directive (Directive 2003/15/EC) introduced a new legal requirement related to the labelling of 26 specific ingredients if present in a cosmetic product above the following concentration thresholds: 0.001% (10mg/kg) for leave-on products and 0.01% (100mg/kg) for rinse-off products.

The Pears soap uses glycerin and other humectants. This helps to retain the skin’s natural oils. This formula makes sure that the skin’s natural oils are retained. So the skin remains soft and smooth. Sales of hand sanitiser soared by 255% in February, which was good news for the handful of manufacturers, including Carex and Cuticura which dominate the market. Many soaps are also thought to contain pig fat or lard. But Pears does not use these animal-derived salts or fats. Animal fats are not essential to get this creamy, soothing effect. So Pears soaps can be used by vegans. They are cruelty-free as well. Pears soaps are not tested on animals. Does Pears soap contain parabens, SLS and other chemicals? Yes, Pears soap should be fine for pregnant women to use. Pears is mild on the skin. It can be soothing since the skin is much more sensitive during pregnancy. It doesn’t cause any specific toxicity. So Pears is middling in terms of quality, texture, and effectiveness. TFM is usually higher for ‘toilet soaps’. These are luxury, high-end, beneficial soaps. Pears is not a toilet soap, but a ‘bathing bar’. It is a regular cleaning soap, which isn’t meant specifically for grooming or cosmetic purposes. The following companies were certified by the Leaping Bunny standard, one of the certification schemes for cruelty-free companies: Astonish, Avalon Organics, Bio-D, Conscious Skincare, Lucy Bee, Faith in Nature, Friendly Soap, Jason, Neal’s Yard, Honesty, Little Soap, Natura ( Body Shop).
