About this deal

In terms of value, I think Elven Council does pretty alright. I doubt Círdan the Shipwright will keep such a high price for long, but I’d bet it’ll still hold some value. Heroic Intervention and Swan Song are amazing cards to have in a precon. EPIC MULTIPLAYER BATTLES—Commander is a multiplayer way to play Magic, an epic, free-for-all battle full of strategic plays and social intrigue Basically, all the new cards support either Food tokens or lifegain (or both) or bring some additional kind of value, usually related to generating or benefiting from tokens. removal; Reclamation Sage, Colossal Whale, Swan Song, Inscription of Abundance, Beast Within, Windswift Slice, Trap the Trespassers, Mystic Confluence, Lothlorien Blade, Lignify

And you know how it feels the worst when you cast an expensive spell, and your opponent just uses a Counterspell? Well, this won’t completely stop Sauron, as it comes with a cast-trigger. When you cast it you get to ammas Orcs 5 (whatever this means, but you likely make a 5/5 orc Army), mill five cards, then get a creature from your graveyard directly onto the battlefield. Now that’s some serious power. Explorers of the Deep" Precon Upgrade Guide | Merfolk +1/+1 Counters | Lost Caverns of Ixalan Commander, The way I upgrade the precon changes heavily between the LOTR-only upgrade section and the regular upgrade section: the LOTR-only section will enhance our Elf theme without much enhancing Politics because there's no real political cards to add from the main set. The regular upgrade section will instead focus on both Politics and Elf themes. card draw; Galadriel, Elven-Queen (lol), Erestor of the Council, Legolas Greenleaf, Cirdan the Shipwright, Gandalf, Westward Voyager, Plea for Power, Lorien Revealed, Mystic Confluence, Mirror of Galadriel, Song of Earendil Perhaps the handy little token markers will help our dearest incoming players with all the memory work?”

Traditional Foil Éowyn, Shieldmaiden Traditional Foil Aragorn, King of Gondor Foil-Etched Éowyn, Shieldmaiden Display Commander The following two options are Círdan the Shipwright and Elrond of the White Council. They both have secret council abilities that can be fun for political gameplay. Elrond of the White Council in particular can be super fun to play at the right time. Do you have questions, comments, or suggestions for more new-to-Commander content you'd like to see? Whether you're brand new or a returning player, new ideas and fresh perspectives help Magic grow and evolve into an ever more exciting and interesting adventure. The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth™ Jumpstart Volume 2—adding more themes to mix and match within The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth. Then, if you have six or more humans, you’re also drawing a card for your troubles. Eowyn brings you halfway to this total; by casting her alone you’ll have three humans by the end of the turn. Repeat this next turnand you’ve already hit six.Of course, as the second most powerful antagonist in Lord of the Rings, the role of the secondary commander of this precon belongs to Saruman. Finally, the last ability puts Gandalf on top of your library. He did always have a habit of disappearing at key moments, but we can get around this with a blink spell to return him to the battlefield. All in all, it’s a flavourful card which earns a spot on this list. In addition to an epic tabletop release, The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth arrives on MTG Arena June 20! From the One Ring and the temptation it offers to the story beats and characters we love in The Lord of the Rings, this release brings the same tabletop- Magic-meets-Middle-earth adventure to your PC and mobile phone. Traditional Foil Frodo, Adventurous Hobbit Traditional Foil Sam, Loyal Attendant Foil-Etched Frodo, Adventurous Hobbit Display Commander Human Soldier creature for Faramir, Steward of Gondor; Lossarnach Captain; Oath of Eorl and Prince Imrahil the Fair.

In short: the goal is to not be the archenemy at the table and instead work with the other players to take out other threats -- all while you're setting up to snag victory once your opponents have wasted their resources! Dealing 3 damage to each opponent might not seem like a lot in a 40-life format like Commander but, considering the amount of times we’ll be able to reset this ability, that’s undoubtedly going to add up. Copying an instant or sorcery spell is best reserved for when you’ve got a critical spell in hand, like an extra-turn spell. Taking two extra turns is likely to surprise even the most cunning forces of Mordor. The Monarch for Aragorn, King of Gondor; Archivist of Gondor; Champions of Minas Tirith; Court of Ire; Crown of Gondor; Denethor, Stone Seer; Éomer, King of Rohan; Faramir, Steward of Gondor; Fealty to the Realm; Forth Eorlingas!; Oath of Eorl; Palace Jailer and Throne of the High City. Food and Fellowship’s mechanics are the most effective at representing the most important and fundamental aspect of Tolkien’s books: a hobbit’s daily meals. And hobbits eat a lot. Lord of the Rings Commander cards with the expansion code LTC and numbered #1–80 (Etched foil face commanders are numbered #81–84 and extended art alternate versions are numbered #85–160) are permitted in the Commander, Legacy, and Vintage formats. Returning cards with the expansion code LTC and numbered 161–347 are legal for play in any format that already allows those cards.

Food and Fellowship

The Monarch mechanic can be deceptive at times, and fights to wrestle control over the crown are likely to ensue, so new players should be wary of when to be defensive and offer value trades and when to full-send their board state to threaten lethal on another player. The reminder text of the Monarch isn’t as bad as a mechanic I have yet to get to, so overall it’s alright. lands and Arbor Elf, Elvish Mystic, Paradise Druid, Wose Pathfinder, Elvish Archdruid, Farhaven Elf, Wood Elves, Elvish Piper, Growth Spiral, Rampant Growth, Cultivate, Travel Through Caradhras, Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, Commander's Sphere, Model of Unity MAGIC MEETS THE LORD OF THE RINGS—Experience the beloved story of The Lord of the Rings with the strategic gameplay of Magic: The Gathering, facing off against opponents in thrilling magical battles Pippin, Warden of Isengard can be especially useful thanks to its two abilities. Being able to create a Food token at any time makes it so that you can get them during your opponents’ turns, which would cause Merry, Warden of Isengard to trigger during that turn, somewhat bypassing its “this ability triggers only once each turn” rule. The second ability on Pippin can also be a massive game ender if you have enough creatures on the field. Sauron is a highly expensive commander at a mana value of eight. This means you’re probably gonna be casting it only a couple of times each game, but the card itself is designed to make each of those plays worthwhile. The second this card hits the battlefield you amass 5, then you self-mill five and return a creature from your graveyard to the battlefield. All of this on a 9/9 body with trample that can make the Ring tempt you.

For fans new and old across Magic and The Lord of the Rings, this is a chance to celebrate with an unforgettable event for an amazing set. We'll show you more about the Magic Celebration event later this year. Secret Lair Joins the Fellowship The final commander, Erestor is a payoff for all the voting cards. It’s apparently quite persuasive character, as opponents are more likely to vote for your choice, if it’s in the play. There are a total of four commander precons for this set, and each one has some high-dollar inclusions. As well as several playable dual lands of lesser value that players will be happy to have, and the staples like Sol Ring , Arcane Signet , & Command Tower . It's worth noting that many, if not all, of these cards will drop some from the current prices because of being reprinted. So, be sure to keep that in mind.

Aragorn is, quite fittingly, bringing the monarch mechanic to the table. This mechanic is so powerful, that every card that can grant you becoming a monarch should be taken very seriously.
