About this deal

Husband carrying our 16-month-old in the LittleLife Cross Country S4 on a nature walk How we tested the LittleLife Cross Country S4

Unlike many child carriers on the market, our child carriers are British Standard Approved. This means they’ve been rigorously tested to the highest standards required in Britain (equivalent to European TUV standards) to keep your child safe.

How we chose our recommendations

The best part about cycling is that you need very little to get going. There are a number of must-have pieces of equipment such as a helmet, high visibility clothing and lights, but apart from this small group, you don’t need anything extra. Comfort in a carrier is key too, for example the hip belt pivots whilst you’re walking so the load is shared more evenly across your body. Before you go we’ve put together some top tips for you to consider when you’re buying any cycle products online. These tips can apply whether you’re a new rider or an experienced cyclist. How to shop for cycling stuff, smartly and safely.

Laura Westerman is an editor, writer and Deputy Head of Editorial Content at Mumsnet, and mum to a one-year-old. It’s clear that everyone is different. Some of us live for adventurous hikes in the mountains, others prefer a pootle around the shops. Some in the team tower over us at a whopping 6’4”, others proudly topping out at the 5’2” mark. But we’re all in agreement that being able to explore anywhere with our children, hands-free, and to share these experiences with our most precious cargo is a joy like no other. The Adventurer is ready to use straight out of the box. The straps take no time at all to get to grips with and everything adjusts as you would expect. Cycling to work is a very rewarding and physically stimulating way of getting to work. Beating the soul crush of driving and the busy crunch of public transport, cycling is great for the mind and the body.As for the child seat, my daughter was comfortable and relaxed in the carrier the entire ride but found it more comfortable to hold onto the shoulder stabiliser straps than to leave her arms dangling. She rested her head against the drool pad on a number of occasions, but didn’t actually fall asleep in the carrier (although given time, I think she would have). The foot stirrups offered some support, although her feet did slip out a couple of times. What's the LittleLife Cross Country S4 like to use day-to-day? Do you want a sling that will last for years, or something that works amazingly in the first six months before graduating to one better suited to older tots? 'Be aware that carrier manufacturers can be optimistic with how long their products will last — it's highly unlikely a sling suitable for a newborn will last until your child turns four.' says Ruth. Co-parenting

The LittleLife Cross Country S4 has been designed for use over a longer duration than other LittleLife carriers like the Ranger S2, so I found it comfortable to use on long outings. Our advice is to take your time studying factors like the reputation of the brand, the materials used to manufacture the product and also comparing it to other products of a similar price in the Child Carriers category. While I would have liked to see this carrier available in the blue colourway seen on other LittleLife carriers to give buyers more than one colour option, the overall design is in a neutral grey that will appeal to most families. What’s the difference between the LittleLife Cross Country S3 and S4?
