About this deal

I'm using a high-end lapel microphone that is plugged in (via a connection cable) to one of the XLR slots. I have tried both slots. But no audio comes through. Vocal recording is surprisingly good – easily good enough for podcasts and up there with more expensive interfaces – and it's easily one of the cheapest and most flexible solutions for connecting up a high-quality condenser mic up to a range of mobile and desktop devices. Instrument recordings are just as good and it's able to deliver the weight and range it should with minimal noise only really evident at higher input levels. The PSU is great to get around always needing batteries, especially if you are not being mobile with the unit. Indeed there's no doubting that IK Multimedia has an eye on just about every audio application with iRig Pro Duo I/O, both in and away from the studio. It comes with batteries (2 x AA) and Lightning, USB-C and USB-A cables so can be used with iOS or Android devices but will also draw power by USB for more flexible use with a Mac or PC (it can be powered by DC but the adapter for this is an optional extra). And overall, it boasts decent enough specs to capture good quality audio recordings for a lot of different situations including music production, live streaming plus audio for podcasts and videos. But then nothing else happens. I can't work out how to make any audio from my lapel microphone register in the iPad.

All I want is to be able to record videos on my iPad using the iRig Pro Duo to feed in audio from my lapel microphone. Don’t want or need to do any or much fiddling around with editing etc. Just simple, clean audio for the spoken voice – that’s all I want. For example, if you want to keep your rig portable and use condenser microphones, you’ll need an interface that supplies phantom power. Maybe you plan on recording guitar and vocals at the same time; then you’ll need enough inputs that also allow simultaneous recording. Above, headless Q2U via iRig Pro Duo I/O, processed with mild noise reduction and mild compression from Hindenburg Journalist Pro. I recently bought a Irig Stream Solo device. However I have exhausted my strength in trying to get it to work on my iPhone. Headphone monitor has zero latency and sounds fantastic (at least with a pair of Skull Candy headphones)

My daughter got AmpliTube on PC with that free QR scan, she did some testing but failed. I will have to sit with her and dop the troubleshooting. The iRig Pro Duo, while portable, isn't exclusively for those on-the-go (can hold its own in all recording environments)

Max load condition: both inputs connected to two 1.5mA phantom powered loads, input gains set to maximum, outputs set to maximum. Power: USB bus power, battery power (2xAA - included), or DC power supply (9VDC, from 500mA up, positive outside - not included) Above, headless Q2U’s directly digital output, flat (to compare with the preamp and A-to-D converter in the iRig Pro Duo I/O). You might have to tinker with volume for awhile to get everything right, but it's fairly intuitive and easy to use (more on this later). Setting up the iRig Pro Duo to work with AudacityThe upper left LED is to indicate whether 48 volt phantom power is active or not. The upper right LED indicates whether MIDI is active (which I did not test). As shown above, this output fortunately has its own level setting on the corresponding side of the Rig Pro Duo I/O. Test recordings Yes, you can indeed connect an unbalanced electret condenser microphone to the iRig Pro Duo I/O, as long as you use a VXLR+ converter (illustrated above, covered in these articles). The VXLR+ accepts the 48-volt phantom power from the iRig Pro Duo I/O and converts it into lower voltage bias voltage (plugin power) for these microphones, while adapting the connections. I tested it with the iRig Pro Duo I/O and it worked perfectly well, either with an XLR cable or by plugging the XLR+ directly into the iRig Pro Duo I/O’s XLR input.
