About this deal

ForFrozen Planet IIAlex travelled to Pakistan, to capture the splendour of the remote Karakorum mountains, deep into Greenland’s ice sheet to document the seismic changes occurring there due to climate change and to the far east of Russia to film the illusive Siberian Tiger. These landmark series will help audiences everywhere to better understand the greatest issues affecting our planet and our relationship with the natural world. Residents of the forests and tundra of the far north are profiled, such as an Arctic fox who hunts lemmings underground and baby painted turtles who are frozen until the spring thaw. Our frozen planet is changing. In this final episode, we meet the scientists and people dedicating their lives to understanding what these changes mean, not just for the animals and people who live there, but for the world as a whole. The finale examines the sobering effect of climate change and the consequences for vulnerable harp seals and polar bears from earlier in the series, as well as the wider planet.

Upcoming BBC natural history landmark sequel Frozen Planet II debuted its first worldwide trailer, with the accompanying song performed by global superstar Camila Cabello and multiple Academy Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer. They are much smaller and more compact than other members of the fox family. This helps them to reduce heat loss due to lower total body surface area. They depend on lemmings as their main food source in inland areas creating a tight-knit predator-prey relationship between them. Like polar bears, Arctic foxes have a darker skin pigmentation underneath their fur coating. This is better at absorbing and retaining heat. Their fur changes colour seasonally – white in winter and grey in summer. With the ability to physically adapt to survive winter, Arctic foxes do not need to hibernate. Narwhal and beluga share the same migration paths but interactions between these two closely related species are very rarely observed. The mountains of Japan are the snowiest place on Earth, providing hostile conditions for a lone male Japanese macaque cast away from his troop. His only chance of survival comes with finding another male whose embrace will provide him with life-saving warmth. But in the frozen peaks, the deadliest force is an avalanche whose full destructive power is captured for the first time using high-speed camera racer drones. Polar bears are usually very solitary animals, so filming two young bears, a young male and a female bear, forging a surprising friendship and playing was a first for the camera team involved. The bears spent several hours together, seemingly dancing on ice.One Planet: Seven Worlds (w/t), the previously announced landmark series to be narrated Emmy ®-winner Sir David Attenborough, is a brand new ambitious seven-part landmark nature docu-series. Each one-hour episode will transport viewers to a single continent and tell the story of its spectacular wildlife and iconic landscapes. Previously announced, it will air on BBCA in 2020. To film calving glaciers from an aerial perspective the team used drones. The glacier in question, Store Glacier, measures 5km across and the team had to be on standby watching the glacier 24/7 for more than four weeks, ready to launch the drones whenever action seemed likely, within minute of activity starting. Many chameleon species lay eggs. Mount Kenya it is too cold for an egg to develop in the open so high-casqued chameleons give birth to live young which have developed inside the body of the mother, a process known as viviparity. This is the first time a high-casqued chameleon birth has been filmed for television. These unique stromatolites are formed by multiple species of cyanobacteria including Phormidium autumnale and Leptolynbya antarctica. This lake has only been discovered in the last 13 years. Behind The Scenes We saw golden eagles in the Alps hunting mountain goats by dropping them over cliffs as a predation technique,” says Alex Lanchester. “And in China, we saw a twerking Giant Panda! The male's scent mark their territories and, to get it higher up the tree, they do a handstand and shimmy!”

We begin our journey close to the equator - the furthest point from the poles - in East Africa. Here on the high slopes of Mount Kenya, during the day the tropical sun keeps the cold at bay, but at night the frost descends. During this cycle of freeze and thaw, a pregnant high-casqued chameleon must choose the right time to give birth if her newborns are to escape the deadly night freeze. New 4K remote camera traps were employed across multiple locations where animals were too secretive to be filmed from a hide, including the giant Siberian tiger, the secretive Amur leopard and the wild giant pandas roaming the snow-covered forest scent marking trees as they search for food and potential mates. The first episode sets up these worlds and the fact that they're perhaps more varied than you might imagine. It also explains why these regions are cold.

The Pallas’s cat has the densest fur of any cat which allows them to stay warm through the harsh Mongolian winter.

There’s humour here, in the form of walruses rolling their way into the water to cool down, but a serious message about rising summer temperatur Some polar bears, as seen in this episode, use a technique known as ‘aquatic-stalking’ in which they sneak up on their prey and ambush from the water. When filming caribou in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, Alaska, the team took advantage of 24-daylight conditions by using solar power to charge batteries. The solar panel kit was good enough to daily charge four cameras, four laptops and two satellite phones every day for four weeks. Filming Locations The song will be performed at the Earth Prom tomorrow (Sat 27th August) in a live premiere by a special star guest, as part of the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall. Frozen Planet II accompanies the TV series and was released in hardcover format on 11 September 2022 to coincide with the series debut in the UK. It is written by the series producers Mark Brownlow and Elizabeth White. The UK version is published by BBC Books. [24] It’s the most northerly turtle. Painted turtle hatchlings that hatch in autumn remain in their nest chambers and become frozen solid at the onset of winter. Their hearts stop and their brains are only faintly active.

Episode 4 - Frozen South

The series will feature remarkable, new animal behavior from all the continents including the baking plains of Africa and the frozen waters off Antarctica. In Asia, the biggest of all continents, we will showcase life at the extremes, while in Europe we will reveal surprising wildlife dramas hidden right alongside us. The series will celebrate the diversity of life on each of these continents, but also the many challenges faced by animals in a modern world dominated by humanity. Epic landscapes and intimate behavior have been filmed using the very latest techniques, allowing audiences to experience each continent like never before. In Frozen Ocean the series dives into a world of water and ice to reveal the animals which survive on and under the Arctic sea ice. It’s a seasonal story that begins in the depths of winter. This is a time of plenty for polar bears who can afford to play in the short winter days, through to the perils of spring as the sea ice breaks up, finally to its bountiful summer where visitors are drawn to the ocean from afar to feed up and breed.
