About this deal

Homme EDP: “A fresh, citrusy, woody scent that gets you going! My friends loves it, and even my wife can't resist sneaking a spray or two " - Fabrizio

Homme, created by perfumer Dominique Ropion, is a close relative of Comme des Garçons Series 3, Incense fragrances (woody/resinous with sweet/spicy facets) and it’s practically a “twin” of Eau d'Italie Baume du Doge. Homme includes notes of grapefruit, bergamot, cardamom, cinnamon, thyme, clove, patchouli, sandalwood and labdanum. In a few words, Costume National Homme Parfum is: rich, smooth, spicy, creamy, woody, dark green, exotic, and festive. Costume National Homme, released in 2009 and composed by master perfumer Dominique Ropion, is no exception, having grown into a cult classic over the years. Costume National Homme Parfum, a 2020 edition, is advertised as a deeper, richer, and more refined variation on the original. In my view, this will be a great choice for people who are in their mid-late 20s and above who are a bit more settled in life. There’s a high probability that the person who likes this will have an interest in art, literature, film, music, etc. They probably go to art galleries and concerts, read books, and keep their finger on the pulse of world events.

Yesterday though I sampled this for the first time. Man, was I surprised! I really liked it, rom the fresh citrussy opening to the heartnotes where you are greeted by cloves and cinnamon. The cloves are clearly present but it's not as if you're dipped into a jar of cloves. They blend really well with the cinnamon actually. It's a very warm, spicy scent. The only thing I had some mixed feelings about was the base that revealed itself after 5 or 6 hours. Costume National Homme Parfum is a spice bomb of epic proportions. I will caution you: if you don’t like spicy fragrances, STAY AWAY. Overall, the presentation for Costume National Homme Parfum is minimalistic but very well done. Performance J EDP: a tribute to Japanese tradition with a modern twist. The fragrance combines fine ingredients with typical Japanese delicacy, creating an ethereal and luminous fragrance. That means this one here is an absolute bomb. DISCRETION IS ADVISED. I would recommend no more than three sprays for this fragrance, and that only if you’re going to be outdoors. For normal use, I limit myself to two sprays, and if I wear this to work, a single spray. It’s that strong. It is a pretty versatile fragrance which will do you good at the office (so long as you go easy on the trigger), semi-formal and formal occasions, casual hangouts, and maybe even romantic encounters, though I wouldn’t recommend it for a first date due to the polarizing nature of the spices. Similar Fragrances I think that it could be unisex, but it errs much more on the masculine side of the spectrum if you ask me. Still, ladies, by all means, take this one out for a spin and see if it works for you. When To Wear It It's longevity is amazing, I applied it to my wrist at around 6 PM, even washed my hands a few times with water, but when I took a shower this morning at around 11:30 AM, I could still smell it on my wrist. Usually my skin tends to eat fragrances a little bit, but I was really impressed. These two notes are surrounded by a beautiful light balsamic note reminiscent of blossom honey, which gives the base flattering attributes and allows the fragrance to fade away wonderfully. If you didn't like the original but like the idea of the original, give this a try. You just might fall in love.

However, owning two other Costume National fragrances as I do, I can speak to the box presentation. The fragrance comes in a dark grey box with the name of the brand and the fragrance written in silver lettering. There’s little in the way of additional accoutrements inside the box, just the bottle. Still, it’s perfectly in line with Costume National’s Italian minimalist aesthetic. Bottle Dolce di Giorno by Italian niche brand Bois 1920 has often been called a “niche” version of Costume National Homme with a heavy dose of plum. Not having smelt that fragrance myself, I can’t really comment on that, but the parfum already smells “niche” to my nose, so I won’t be seeking it out. Master perfumers, with their great skill, create authentic works of artin each of the brand's collections, using high qualityingredients. The main goal of Costume National is to give new lifeto precious ingredientsfrom the perfumery art, such as amber, sandalwood, saffron, jasmine, ylang-ylang, and patchouli, transforming them into elegantand modernfragrances that maintain a timeless style. A brand with a refined taste, which is also reflected in the iconic designof its flasks, sculpted following a plaster modelcreated by the founder himself. There’s no doubt: these flacons represent a manifesto of styleand beauty, capable of satisfying both the eyeand the noseof the most demanding enthusiasts! When I wear Costume National Homme Parfum I feel calm, sophisticated, centered, and like a hot, spicy hunk of man. And who doesn’t wanna smell like that? Italian designer brand Costume National is known for its eccentric couture and stellar fragrances. Releases like Cyber Garden, Scent Intense, 21, and Soul have all been lauded by fragrance lovers for their quality and originality. Two to three sprays gives me five to six hours of polite, but consistent projection and arm’s length sillage. The most successful of these, for me, was Scent Intense. It is one of my favorite floral amber fragrances. Sadly Laurent Bruyere passed away in 2008 and since then only two scents have been released by Costume National: 21 in 2008, and at the end of 2009 the first male-marketed fragrance from the House, Costume National Homme. I vastly prefer this over the original eau de parfum, which I tried a number of times but never could convince myself to enjoy. If you want greater performance, you could always amp up the sprays, but I would recommend going easy on the trigger for this one, because… Projection & Sillage The bottle is vaguely rectangular, widening out more at the base. It’s also kind of indented (I don’t know if that’s the technical term for it), sloping in and down. All of the Costume National bottles are like this; I’ll attach some photos so you get an idea of what I mean. The bottle feels very nice in the hand and is obviously high quality. Costume National Homme Parfum alongside other Costume National bottles.

Some of Ropion's popular creations include Givenchy Ysatis, Givenchy Amarige, Kenzo Jungle Elephant, Calvin Klein Euphoria, Thierry Mugler Alien, Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb, and Lancôme La Vie Est Belle. However, his most famous creation is arguably Portrait of a Lady for Frédéric Malle, which he developed with his friend and collaborator, Frédéric Malle. This fragrance is considered a masterpiece in the fragrance industry and has received critical acclaim. Homme is a wonderful companion for the spring, autumn and winter months for the slightly younger, or slightly young-at-heart gentleman looking for an aromatic, flattering fragrance that stands out a little from the crowd. When I wear this fragrance, I envision a well-groomed man in his late 20s or early 30s, perhaps wearing a dark olive green suit. He is well traveled, worldly, and balanced, completely in his element. I think that it would be the perfect fragrance for a poet, philosopher, writer, scholar, or artsy types. Costume National is a niche perfumerybrand founded in 2001by Ennio Capasa, combining Japanese minimalismwith the Italian sartorial approach to create wonderful and original artistic perfumes.Costume National fragrances have an innovative soul, a modern identity, and a strong connection with Italy and the artistic traditionof high perfumery. These unique scents are created following a contemporaryand essentialstyle, which is reflected in the high qualityand purity of the raw materials used. Free d’Homme EDP: a metropolitan and nonconformist scent, thanks to a mix of citrus notes, Cypriol, Saffron and Incense!

Homme has excellent longevity and average sillage. While Homme is marketed to men I can see women who enjoy a spicy fragrance also enjoying it. The fragrance opens up with a blast of grapefruit and the distinctive, licoricey twang of green cardamom pods. While I’m not a big fan of cardamom in food other than as an accent note (it always makes my tongue dry out), I absolutely love the smell of cardamom. This has one of the most realistic and zingy cardamom notes I’ve encountered so far, and so I was in love from first spray.
