About this deal

Also, Dysons are bagless so you get a big cloud of dust when you go to empty them which is a problem for some. Enter the Blizzard CX1 Cat & Dog. Based on the manual power controlled Excellence model, this bagless cylinder cleaner adds Miele’s Cat & Dog floorhead to the tool roster. We’ve been impressed by this tool on some of Miele’s other pet-centric cleaners. Its air-powered rotating brush bar with twin rows of stiff nylon bristles are very effective for all-round carpet cleaning duties. Taking the container out of the machine was a piece of cake: it lifts out easily. Once over the bin, there was no fiddling about with the catch. It pops open to let out the dust. The size of the container opening might mean you have to size up your bin, though, to avoid the debris overshooting. Miele Blizzard CX1 handy features Interestingly, the CX1’s bin proved something of a star performer with pet hairs. Vacuumed up hairs were pushed to the bottom of the bin chamber, didn’t seem to get caught around the gauze filters, and always dropped out easily when the flap was opened. Finally, there’s a small crevice tool and an equally compact upholstery brush, both parked on the rear end of the cleaner for instant access.

When approaching stairs, the Blizzard CX1 Cat & Dog PowerLine has the same issue as its siblings – it’s weighty to carry and too large to sit comfortably on average UK household steps. It has the ability to stand upright on its rear, but even this presents a pretty large footprint that’s likely to hang over the step edge.Miele mainly makes bagged vacuums which is always a pain because it means you have to buy bags when you empty it.

Sitting the vac upright is the most space-efficient way of storing it, and there’s a place to hook the floorhead into the machine to keep things tidy, and so it’s a single unit when you come to get it out of the cupboard. The curve of the sizeable suction hose means it does take up space widthways, though, so although it’s not too bulky overall, it does demand storage room. Miele Blizzard CX1 manoeuvrability The Comfort PowerLine is supplied with outstanding tools for hard floors in particular, and is very easy to empty and keep clean. It’s rather heavy for stair climbing and it struggled with pet hairs on carpets, but Miele does offer a dedicated Cat & Dog pet-centric version of the CX1 too. You simply can’t beat the CX1 Cat & Dog’s superb suction, high airflow and super-quiet operation. Add in the self-cleaning main filter, outstanding build quality and the Cat & Dog floorhead for great carpet cleaning (with or without a pet), and the Blizzard CX1 Cat & Dog PowerLine is a fabulous all-round cylinder cleaner. Verdict The only place it doesn’t hold up is on furniture, it does an OK job and has a crevice tool to get into it but if you want to clean the furniture you’ll want the cat & dog powerline model. However, the Miele robot vac is still a good one, my quibbles are with all robot vacs, not just this one. It’s got an excellent run time of 2 hours and can make its way around 150 square meters of floor. The CX1 Comfort PowerLine received a solid “paws up” from the canine contingent here, too, thanks to its very low noise. We managed to clean right up to our Collie without disturbing her from a daytime snooze… Miele put the work into the durability of their vacuum cleaners and it pays off in a vacuum that’s built to last. None of the CX1 models are really great for stair cleaning, but the Cat & Dog nudges into the lead here thanks to the extra manoeuvrability of the Cat & Dog head. I really like the design of the Boost and that it’s light and manoeuvrable. In use, it has plenty of suction to get wooden floors and carpets clean. What I’m not a fan of is the clip that holds the three cleaning accessories as it’s situated right at the point where my hand grips the vacuum wand. Of course, you don’t have to attach the clip, but then you won’t have the attachments easily to hand. Miele Boost CX1: Also consider The Cat & Dog head pushes that cleaning performance up another notch, and not just for pet detritus. The beating action of the brush bar agitates dust and dirt free from the carpet pile, cleaning carpets deeper and more efficiently than is possible with the standard EcoTeq head.

All the tools are very well made, feel robust and work well. From the cyclone system and self-cleaning filter, to the tools at the end of the hose, the CX1 is a great piece of design engineering. Where it doesn’t match the CX1 is there’s no HEPA filter, so this isn’t a good choice for anyone with allergies. If you don’t suffer you likely won’t notice the difference but if you tend to sneeze from dust you’ll want to go with the CX1 above.

Simply pulling the CX1 Comfort PowerLine around is quite an unusual experience; the smooth rolling rubber wheels make it glide silently over hard floors. All of those coolness does come at a cost though, it’s an expensive vacuum, but it actually does as good a job as a regular vacuum cleaner so all you have to do is empty it and you’re house will clean itself. A lot of people who are replacing their Miele vacuums are usually disappointed to have to downgrade from a 1200w motor to a 900w motor. Won’t the suction be so much worse?

If you ask people who already own a Miele vacuum how long they’ve had it. Most of them will tell you they’ve had it for at least 10 years! I would have to say yes, they’ve been tested for a 20-year lifespan and although they only have a 2-year guarantee you can’t argue with that testing. The EU brought in new regulations limiting vacuum cleaners to a power of less than 900 w to increase energy efficiency. It’s nicely low for getting under obstacles and has a complete perimeter of castle-stepped brushes. Spreading your vacuuming power over such a big cleaning area suggests Miele is very confident in the suction power of the CX1.

Plus if you like gadgetry you can open up the app on your phone and actually see a live stream of where it’s cleaning. Not particularly useful but goddamn is it cool. Wireless remote control, variable power, self-cleaning low-maintenance filters, easy-to-empty bin and a raft of tools are just the beginning of the story. It isn’t great for pet hairs on carpets (there’s the CX1 Cat & Dog version for that) – but otherwise, the CX1 Comfort PowerLine never fails to impress. Out of the box, the flagship Comfort PowerLine edition is a sleek-looking cylinder cleaner. Its white coachwork, darker panels and sweeping lines are reminiscent of a fly-bridge on a luxury yacht, and the crystal-clear bin offers you a window into the centre of its single cyclone bagless system. The cleaner isn’t small, nor is it light, but it certainly looks like it means business.
