About this deal

The book is the latest in the Roy Grace series after the previous release of Picture You Dead which launched in October. As always with this author, the book is well written and expertly plotted. The police investigation is realistically portrayed. I love Roy Grace and his team, who all seem like old friends now., and I can't help having a bit of a soft spot for Norman Potting who has grown on me throughout the series. At one point the case comes a little too close to home for Roy and his family, who are dog lovers, and I loved the way that Cleo dealt with the matter 😁

When a young farmer confronts intruders in the middle of the night he has no idea that just minutes later he will be left dying in a pool of blood. What's more chilling is what the perpetrators were willing to kill for. At the scene of the crime, Detective Superintendent Roy Grace soon realises this is no isolated robbery gone wrong but the tip of the iceberg of a nationwide crime wave, in which ruthless organised gangs are making more money from the illegal trade in dogs than drugs. I would like to thank Netgalley and Pan Macmillan for an advance copy of Stop Them Dead, the nineteenth novel to feature Detective Superintendent Roy Grace of Sussex Police.Sitting in the jury is Meg Magellan, whose daughter's life is being threatened by a stranger who tells her that if she ever wants to see her alive again, it is very simple. At the end of the trial, all she has to do is make sure the jury says just two words . . . Not guilty.

James’ novels are notable for the great detail around the investigation. In particular, there’s a level of detail around the roles of particular police specialists, and the command structure, which I’ve rarely seen elsewhere. It adds both credibility and an interesting intellectual and practical level to the narrative. Grace isn’t focused just on finding the murderers. He’s also focused on finding enough evidence, of the right kind, to ensure an effective and lengthy conviction. This again leads to highlighting details some writers skim over. It sounds dry, but in fact it’s an absorbing insight into how real police officers think. PDF / EPUB File Name: Stop_Them_Dead_Detective_Roy_Grace_Series_19_-_Peter_James.pdf, Stop_Them_Dead_Detective_Roy_Grace_Series_19_-_Peter_James.epub There is no tension. Nothing is nail biting. Too much is included that does not move the murder story and does no more than explain the plight of puppies farmed without care who do not appear to get their happy ending. Although the novel features ongoing characters, and their lives, there’s enough detail here for new readers to know what’s going on with them. You could step into the series here and start reading with no problems; you just might take a bit longer to engage with some characters.Grace never loses sight of the fact he’s investigating a murder, which underlines how ruthless the criminals he’s seeking are. They’re only interested in profit, and don’t care who gets hurt along the way. This time, Grace is confronted with one of the most horrible crimes: making money of innocent animals. Of course, it starts with all those people who suddenly want a pedigree dog but are not willing to pay for it.

The main villain is seen infrequently until the final pig slurry fight. The second killer is seen once waking up in bed. Cassian Pewe, or as I have renamed him, Cats Spewe, is the baddie you love to hate, he will never be a redeemable character, as many bad ones can be, his callousness & disregard for anyone else have proven that. The book follows on the event of a farmer, Tim Ruddle who is killed trying to prevent a group of thieves kidnapping his dogs worth thousands of points. Roy is called into to action to investigate as senior investigating officer and bring justice where Tim leaves behind a wife and two young kids. The book delves into the depth of dog breeding/ kidnapping and illegal imports in the UK, which I am surprised is not spoken about or covered in the news much. Honestly reading this book felt like I was watching an TV episode - it’s written well but researched to a tee. You can tell the level of detail James has put in to make the plot realistic and credible. At the scene of the crime, Detective Superintendent Roy Grace soon realises this is no isolated robbery gone wrong but the tip of the iceberg of a nationwide crime wave, in which ruthless organised gangs are making more money from the illegal trade in dogs than drugs. A trade which pits him against some ruthless people who will kill anyone who gets in their way, because where there is greed, there is murder.

Detective Superintendent Roy Grace unearths a powerful criminal network in the sinister crime novel Find Them Dead, by award winning author Peter James. The novel presents a solid crime story. Although the broad form of the novel offers no surprises, there’s an interesting angle on the crimes being investigated, and the wealth of investigative detail will absorb crime fans. Overall, Stop Them Dead is a highly entertaining, disturbing, edgy thriller by James that once again highlights his exceptional ability to write police procedurals that have well-drawn characters and timely storylines. It is the nineteenth novel in the Roy Grace series and definitely one of my new all-time favourites.

The way he portrays how a 7 year old would speak in a pool (more like a 2-3 year old) jars and also that parents would leave a child who has been declared critically ill to go to the office to cancel appointments/ go home have a shower (well Roy and Cleo would, but just doesn’t add to any emotional journey). Maybe I am unique but I’d be being sedated. I’m not sure how I feel about that, I do know I felt the author should of given more time & ‘fleshed out’ her character as well as Bruno’s, it felt to me like the author had just gotten bored of them & just killed them off, so to speak.

Discover the darkness that lurks around every corner in the latest instalment of the award-winning Grace series, now a major BRITBOX series. Grace’s investigation into this deadly trade pits him against some of the most ruthless people he has ever encountered; people who will kill anyone who gets in their way, because where there is greed, there is murder.
